Question for any Sub/SD experts
Hello All,
First of all, I hope all of you enthusiasts are healthy and doing well during this bizarre time. Personally, I find it to be a mental battle from day to day, however my watches still do bring me joy I must say. Which brings me to my question. I would like to explain a few things before the question(s) so here we go. This has to do with two watches in particular; the 114060 and the 116600 comparatively. I've noticed that although they are quite similar, they definitely have their differences. My question specifically has to do with the bezels. I've noticed the bezel on my 114060 has very sharp knurling. I really like it as it's easy to turn and it gives a really good grip. I bought this brand new btw direct from Rolex. Ok so now the 116600. Not only does it have more markers on it but I've found the knurling isn't nearly as sharp. I did however buy this "near mint" condition. It didn't have a mark on it, it looked brand spanking new when I received it. Was it polished? I have no clue, they say it wasn't but who really knows right? Which is why I am here asking you all. So my question is, does anyone know if the SD bezel naturally has a slightly different softer knurling that is more rounded off than the 114060? or do you think it was ever so slightly polished? One would think all Rolex Dive watches of a similar era would have the same knurling pattern, but then again, not necessarily. So has anyone bought a 116600 brand new and noticed this and/or have also compared these two? Is the knurling the same? Is it different from the factory? Thanks for you time! |

well if those are your pics it looks like your 114060 has a 116600 bezel insert in it judging by the minute markers all around (which I actually like a lot!)

Hi Could I ask how did you manage to acquire an SD bezel & was it a straight fit or was any modification needed to the Sub? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes we get it, you swapped your 114060 bezel with a 116600. It really looks amazing don't get me wrong but way to derail OP's question.
back to the subject, I noticed the same thing with my 114060 and 116600. The Sub has a sharper knurling on the bezel and it's a bit stiffer to turn as compared to the sd4k. Hopefully others who have both can chime in as well. |

SD4K knurling is not as sharp as that of the Sub. I have noticed that as well.

I was starting to get skeptical, but it's great to officially know now. And yet again another minute detail that we keep discovering about these little mechanisms. Have a great weekend gentlemen! |

Interesting mod OP. I personally prefer the Submariner bezel on the Sub but to each their own.
If you’re into razor sharp bezels that click, try a SD43 |

I’ve noticed the same myself too. I’ve heard others state the same. I sold my SubC when I got my SD4K and no regrets, much prefer it...

great choice! I love mine as well... it's such a gem imo, 40mm full graduated markers, smaller lugs, yet all the bells and whistles of a newer model aka ceramic bezel and hefty bracelet and clasp, plus dive extension if you're into that... I actually still have mine on, I don't ever use it, but it doesn't really bother me so I keep it. I actually have a 16600 as well and it actually came with two dive extensions one longer one and one shorter one. So basically one that's almost a perfect square, and one that's more of a rectangle much like the 116600 just not as robust obviously due to the jingly jangly design of the pre ceramic bracelets.
