Icon4 ROLEX build quality as of late... GMT

here is the youtube video of these guys from Clockbait that talk about watches, and who are complaining about the GMT

They are complaining about the loosness of the bezel comparing to the nicer sub bezel.

Grinding sounds from at least 5 GMT's that they know of

let me know what you think

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c85o07K__M0

Anyone else experience this?

This isn't the first time I have heard of bezel issues or "play" on a Rolex and I doubt it will be the last. Remember Rolex mass produces watches 1000's of pieces of an individual model so from time to time there are defects. Just like almost every new car now a-days, I feel like every year there's a different recall on a different car/different issue.

Never look at anything from Youtube opinions are just that opinions, plus the simple fact all GMT bezels are quite different from sub bezels.

I was actually more concerned with the grinding noises from the new Rotor Bearings on the 3285 movement.

I’ve had a blue sub that doesn’t line up at the 12 and a wg Daytona with its chrono running hand doesn’t perfectly line up at the 12 over the centre point of the crown either.

But neither of them really bother me. They are extremely minor things on otherwise stunning watches

Same here

I’ve owned three 6 digits in my lifetime with Rolex and never had these issues.

The “ grinding noise” these “experts” are hearing is the ceramic rotor bearing, which apparently is an upgrade. Your JLC or Patek may make the same noise. Maybe the old 31xx series movements are not so bad after all?

The 31’s definitely wind smoother IMHO

In the manufacturing process, tight bezels on Monday, by Friday with weekend and happy hour looming, a bit more play in the bezels...

Afraid most of these youtube guys could not tell there ars# from there elbow, all ball-bearing rotors like on the 32 series will have more noise than the sleeve type rotors on the 31 series movements and quite normal.

That does make me feel quite a bit better. I also thought they were exaggerating and that ROLEX would never allow this to happen on a new movement.

I love metallic sounds, but not like a cement grinder... I had to rule out any complaints before I start shopping...

Curious about the grinding sounds. I haven't handled a new movement piece enough to notice.

Totally opposite experience here.

I have two 6 digit GMTs and both bezels turn smoothly and reek of quality.

I have a friend who's a proud, hardcore Seiko aficionado. He looked at my 126710BLRO this evening (yes, we practiced social distancing) and said the sweep reminded him of Grand Seiko's Spring Drive.

That aside, no issues, beside the ceramic ball-bearing- which most here would argue isn't an issue. They might be right; my watch still keeps time fairly well and nothing's broken.. for now, I suppose (?).

As for the GMT-hand, I took a 40x loupe to it. The paint is applied perfectly. I can't wait to take a macro shot of it.

These Youtube vidoes you mention are not in the business of informing or teaching. They just need thousands of people to click on their link and generate traffic. Sometimes, unfortunately, the truth is simply too dull or boring to the masses.

Youtube videos showing macros are pretty helpful. Clear QC flaws shown in the videos aren't just opinions. The GMT hand paint for example is atrocious.

Quite a few things are still out sourced by Rolex, like mainsprings they are made by Schwab-Feller AG,movement bearings and cap jewels,crystals,spring-bars,and a firm called Aiguilles makes all the watch hands for all models. But with today's loupe mania high magnification looking for the tiniest so call flaw then blowing out of all proportion Rolex watches become low quality. So while the so call experts on Youtube blow out these tiny details out of all proportion, Rolex still sells around a million watches each year not bad for what some call poor quality watches
