What do you think about this DeVille?

Hey everyone!

I have this Omega on its way to me and I am thinking - keep or not?

and here are the details:
http://www.omega.ch/index.php?id=597...031&no_cache=1

What are your thoughts - or

What attracted me to it was the complication - a co-axial split level chronograph (Rattrapante). This would be my first Omega, should I decide to keep it. I Thank You for your input in advance!

Anyone, folks? I have been reading up on it and still cannot come up with a conclusive decision.... Love the complication, love the co-axial movement, but still just don't know... Help out, guys!

That's a very lovely watch IMO. It's definitely a keeper. I think the dial is absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks Mike! BTW, congrats on 500 posts!

My only problem with this watch is the price - this Omega retails for $11400!!!

I bought it at a hefty discount, but still, since it was new, not hefty enough. Just don't associate Omega's with such high price-points...

It's certainly an impressive watch Greg and I'm sure that you got it at the right price.

Hey, thanks Greg, I didn't even realize that I'd hit 500 already lol
$11,000 smackeroonies for that !!! WOW !!! I don't blame you (associating Omega with a higher price point). Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Omega watches, but (for the full retail of $11K) is crazy. Since you got it at a good discount though, I'd just assume keep it ! It's a very lovely watch indeed.
Thanks again for the 500 post congrats !

Wait for the watch to get here before you decide....you have to play with it before you make your choice.

When the watch arrives please post pics Greg.

The price was definitely good for a new Omega, but still - bit pricey...

Oh yeah, I will definitely wait for it to arrive for the final decision, but was curious what other people thought... It should be here tomorrow, will definitely post pics!

i like the movement, but i think the case and dial have an awkward/cluttered appearance.

Well - unfortunately, that is what one would expect from a complication (with the exception of a tourbillon watch with no other complications). That is one thing I accepted before even looking at this watch. Also depends on how big the dial appears... Guess we'll see....

You have a whole lot of Omega choices for that kind of money. Think long and hard on it. Its nice, but jeez.

Greg, you might be interested in my review of a similar watch (non-Rattrapante):
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=70948

Can't say I'm really fond of the Rattrapante's dial vs. mine but I love everything else about these watches.

EDIT: Can I hazard a guess that you're in Real Estate?

Hello,

Great review - that does help tons!

Nope - not in real estate (G-d forbid!)

Greg, that's a really nice looking watch! And at that price, a smoking deal!
Omega has been coming up with some real exclusive stuff, and their quality is superb! I wouldn't second guess the purchase if you have the money to spare!

Hi, Mireyna! I actually snapped the pics and then had to rush home, didn't get a chance to upload and post them. The watch is in my safe at the office, it was so crazy today - I couldn't even examine it like I wanted. Looks very beautiful though - the dial doesn't seem as busy as I thought (I actually like activity on the dial, as I like complications), the case is magnificent, mechanism is crisp, my only hang-up is the price. With twins coming in a month - can I really justify such a purchase for myself?

I think one has to love a watch to keep it. Only you know that. As for Omega pricing, get used to it - much higher prices is where it's going.

Well - I do love it. You're right about their pricing, I noticed the climb already.

LOL, it was worth a shot, I just figured that if you were referring to the split-seconds as split-level then you might be in real estate...

$6K for a Rattrapante is well worth it my friend and if the watch speaks to you then by all means, never mind what we think, keep it, enjoy and most of all, wear it in good health!

EDIT: CONGRATS on the Twins soon to join your family. You obviously know your financial situation best and yes Twins will definitely be a resource hit financially. Maybe take a look at your current collection and see what can be moved instead of this?

Cheers!,
Tim

LOL! I don't know why I said it - felt right!

I have been downsizing my collection actively, only watches which will NEVER meet the chopping block are my Breguets, won't happen.

I am definitely leaning towards keeping it, as you're right, a bit over $6k for an Omega Rattrapante is definitely worth it.

And THANK YOU for your kind words, we are anxiously anticipating the two little buggers!

That's great advise. Having ONE new baby in my life made me realize nothing is worth buying for myself more than diapers and formula....
It's up to you and your wife to decide what's financially possible right now.
Congrats already!
