Is this a stella dial on 18038 ?

Good day everyone.
I have this 18038 for quite sometime and always been amazed by the vignette glossy blue dial.

Is this categorized as stella lacquer dial ?

I found other vignette dial similar but in matte instead of glossy like mine.

My understanding is that, like black or white lacquer/enamel dials, vignette dials are not generally considered to be Stellas, although sellers will sometimes describe them as such - Vignettes are sort of their own category.

I’m not aware of distinctly differing matte vs. glossy vignette dials, do you have photos showing the difference?

You might want to post this question in the Vintage forum, you may get more knowledgeable people chiming in there.

I think the different is the matte dial will consistently show vignette color when it seen from the side or different angles, while glossy lacquer dial will produce different shade of color from light to dark blue with any different angles.

This pic reference taken from mandbwatches.

It’s a vignette dial and it’s beautiful.

That dial is not a Stella by the strict definition of the term. They were solid enamel, single color and without the vignette style shown in your images.

But if you want to call it Stella I think some would agree. The vast majority of vintage collectors wouldn’t though.

Sorry OP didn't mean to Hi-jack your thread, Matte VS Glossy the 2 examples look the same to these 62 year old eyes.

I think you were right Chris.
Maybe the one I thought a matte vignette actually was just an ageing glossy vignette.

And wow for that pic of green vignette ...
I follow your hint and check in C24, that watch is 1803/9 with "price on request" that make me not dare to ask

I just found that there is modern DD with glossy vignette green dial. A 128238 series launch last year.

Pic from google below

Both watches the yellow gold with the green dial The white gold with the green dial are both gorgeous pieces. However I gravitate to the green on white gold I just think that is one of the best combinations. I feel the same way about the blue vinaigrette dials I think they look better on white gold just my two cents. Chris
