Mid 1980s
It’s the last of the MKs. Sometimes referred to as MK4 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We're a polite bunch of guys here but seriously...come on. Why don't you google pictures of the 1980s 5513 and compare. The answer will be on the first page of your search. |

Some have mid font, some thin font, some closed four, some flat four. Some font reach the edge of the insert and some don't. I have come across multiple inserts for sale described as Mark 4 and they differ from one to the next. All I am asking for is if someone more knowledgeable than I could kindly clarify this for me so that I don't buy the wrong insert at significant expense. I appreciate all of the feedback and help given so far and have spent countless hours researching (All of which I have thoroughly enjoyed) but as mentioned I'm finding it a little more challenging to identify the correct mk4 inserts than the previous fat font mk3. I wouldn’t pay more than $200-300 for these as they are not true fat fonts as the early mk1-mk3s and not as rare.
These are more like flat 4s on sapphire models prevalent during the mid 80s transition models. The skinny ones you are seeing are probably service inserts and are worth even less. Don’t stress out too much over inserts. Nobody is going to flip out over it. I’ve seen many 20k+ Rolex’s with $100 service inserts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
