Newbie question - watch size
Recently picked up a Datejust 41. I have a 7.5 inch wrist. Is this size small, large or perfect?
Watch looks a bit smaller than the photo shows... In the back of my mind I’m wondering if I should have gotten a larger watch? The Skydweller or SD43... what do you think? Thanks for any feedback or advice! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have you recently measured your wrist? It looks considerably larger than 7.5"?
To answer your question. Yes - the fact you are asking means it is too small. I'm the same, I prefer a watch that sits slightly larger than the "traditional" look. |

If that's how a DJ41 looks on your wrist, then you have huge wrists that are probably bigger than 7.5 inches. You could just have a flatter wrist up top that gives you more real estate.
You could definitely pull off a Sky-Dweller or Sea-Dweller. If you really like the Sky-Dweller, sell the Date-Just and upgrade. It's bigger, more functional, still has a similar look, and is a much more unique choice. The Sea-Dweller 43 is an entirely different watch but an excellent choice for large wrists. You need to consider case thickness. The Sky-Dweller and Sea-Dweller will wear significantly higher on wrist and also be heavier than the Date-Just. |

Congrats on your purchase
You could easily go larger if you wished (personally that would be too small for me) - the SkyD or SD43 would be fine alternatives - but perhaps live with the watch for a bit longer and then reassess? Now be aware that watch size is a rather hot-button subject here for some, so you may get strongly-opined comments about what's acceptable and what's not and even the Freudian meaning behind it(!) But it simply comes down to what feels right for you

Looks small on you but I have small watches and still wear them occasionally...just not all the time. A Submariner might suit you Size wise...

You could also look at the DJ2 if you’re after the same look in a larger wearing size.

The larger the watch, the more it gets noticed

OP Looks perfectly normal to me.
But It's your wrist, your comfort level. You could pull off a SD43 or SkyD no problem. Or a Panerai with that limb you got there. Side question for the peanut gallery: When did it happen that unless watch lugs go wrist to wrist with not even 1mm of separation wrist from case then you have basically a dime strapped on your wrist? |

You’ve planted the seed. You will think that watch is too small until you end up selling it for something larger. It’s happened to me. I tried to resist for several months, but eventually I broke down and admitted to myself I need a larger watch.
With that said, I don’t think it looks comically small. That’s a sharp looking watch on you. I bet it’s super comfortable, right? It may be a bit small for my personal comfort level if I were you, but I’m not, and only you can decide. No question, you can wear a Sky Dweller, Sea Dweller, Exp II, six digit Subs and GMTs would look great. You have plenty of options. |

IMO, that's the right size for a dress watch on your wrist.
You should definitely check out the SD43 if you want a casual watch with more wrist presence. |

I agree the watch on you looks great. You should see a few links of the bracelet when you view the watch straight on. I see way to many pics where all you see is massive watch case and dial straight on wrist.

So you didn't want a DJ? That size doesn't get any bigger.

Have to agree all this stuff about being large or small is mainly stereo typed with today age that bigger heavier is always better.Myself have 8 half inch wrist but feel quite at home wearing some of my vintage watches most of them 30mm.

I think you could also handle a Skydweller no problem, but keep in mind it's very long over the lug length so it will indeed fill out across your wrist by a good margin |

I would say looks small personally, I currently wear a 46 on a nine inch wrist, I’m trying to get a Submariner (first Rolex) but now concerned it will be too small so looking for an SD43 instead.

I was simply giving the OP a “larger” alternative to the DJ41 that address the size issue, but thank you for giving us your opinion on the reference

In order to know if a watch is too small or too big, it's the upper flat surface of the wrist that should be measured and compared to the length of the case "lug to lug" The watch should not exceed the flat surface of the watch or be much smaller than it. a couple of millimeters shorter from both side is how I like my watches to be, that's why I got 42mm Tudor GMT and a 43mm SD43 for my 7.5' wrist. Your DJ41 sits at the edge of looking small but not too small. It looks OK in pictures but I know that to your eyes it may look smaller as pictures taken with smartphones at short distance make the watch appear bigger than it really is. When I tried the DJ41 at the boutique, I asked the SA if the watch he handed to me is a 36mm, it just looked too small on my wrist. He said it's the 41 and added that the new DJ case is smaller and thinner than the DJII. As I rarely dress formal i decided to skip all 40mm and got the SD43, match perfectly my style and wrist. If I were a suit guy, I would probably bought the DJ41.

It is perfect on you. Oversized watches are in fashion right now. Don’t let fashion dictate your choices. Choose the watch you enjoy.

It looks too small in proportion to your wrist. No issues and you can wear whatever you want but you already know or you would not have asked the question. Rolex has some great watches that are larger and would look more proportional to your wrist. I am a fan of the DSSD, SD43, Sky-Dweller and the 42 mm Explorer II. I would look to one of those watches as a replacement. If you do not want to spend addition funds the Explorer II would be the closest to the value of your DJ. It is a great watch. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I think it looks a little small on you, and I think your wrist is more than 7.5" judging from that picture.
Have you considered a Datejust II? I have the same watch in a II on my 7.75" wrist and I think the size is perfect for larger wristed gents. It's around 1.5 mm larger in diameter and a little thicker. The newer 41 can look a little dainty on larger wrists IMO which is why I didn't go that route. |

A Sky-Dweller or SD43 would be perfect for your large wrist.

That kind of question is completely subjective. Sounds like you believe the watching might be too small for your wrist and that's really all that matters. Since you mentioned the sky dweller here is my sky dweller on my 7.25" wrist

Oversized is relative. On my wrist those are oversized but on his wrist they’d look normal, like he’s wearing a Sub or DJ. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
