The greatest baseball game ever

Yeah the Red Sox swept the yankees and that is great and all BUT game 2 of that series was absolutely the GREATEST baseball game I've seen.

Both teams fought hard. The lead changed hands so many times. Both teams produced high scores. Incredible.
Congrats to the Red Sox for winning but also congrats to the yankees for digging deep and showing me the greatest game ever.
Some people think baseball is boring. Not always. This game (2) should be made available on video.

Yes, just finished watching my third Sox game this weekend. YES !!! Such a great rivalry, the last two games were on national TV so MLB EI wasn't even needed. Tonight's game quite different from the first two. All great, but no epics from my view. We were never in serious danger.

Glad this one didn't go 4+20 mins like the last two. Tired. HATE the Yankees, so pure joy. Many more to play though so not too cocky. Their pitching sure does suck though, so unless they buy an all-star bull pen (probably will) we should be okay against them this season. How about those youngsters in the Sox bull pen tonight? Impressive.

Mets vs. Redsox....World Series.....great game and drama.

The drama was that slow ground ball down first base line which I thought was an easy out. Then it went through Buckner's legs.

Excellent game.

Yes. No matter your allegiance, that game was the game all others should be compared to. Fierce rivalry, each team giving their all. I like aggressive baseball and that game had it all. I wish I'd have recorded it.

Theo basically kicked Cashman's ass in the offseason. Its as simple as that as the Red Sox have the best bull pen in the majors.

You must forgive us. The Red Sox are part of our culture here in New England. I follow English soccer but have to admit the weekend sweep of the Yankees made me smile.

Yeah but a sweep of the Yankees feels as good in April as it does in August. They are the evil empire after all.

As a big Sox fan I have to agree with you. Very entertaining game, but what's at stake is what makes great games and nothing is at stake in April.

As I said earlier, the Sox never really had their back to the walk in any of those games. Yea, you can be down a half dozen runs, but I really don't get too nervous about that before the 6th inning.

Please allow us our celebration though. I've been watching Sox baseball since 1965 and have had my share of heartbreak. Much less than you I'm sure -- well aside from that 2004 ALCS.

Always friends on the topic of watches !!

Wangs era might be down to 20 in a couple of months if he's still on the team and Arod? No comment.

LOVE baseball, but this weekends sweep didn't get me excited. A-rod and Wang are on DL so there's something to be said about that. Was cool watching home getting stolen though, haven't seen that in a few years even though Posada really should have seen it coming a mile away. My favorite:

I take you back to the 2008 AllStar game, if you watched it..you know what I mean. And there was no excuse for people being on DL since they were all heavy players.

absurd to call saturday's game the best game ever. that makes no sense at all. And it's not like the Sox are the little guys who were lucky to beat the big bad Yankees, they spend some serious cash, too.

It's just that the Red Sox were bonafide losers before they won....and now there seems to be a rush of fans that didn't existed before.

It's trendy to be a Red Sox fan...just like the Celtics as of late, the new Celtic fans have no idea of what their franchise was all about before KG, Allen and Pierce.

The rivalry is great for the game of baseball.

.
That's far from true.

While there are many that jump on the bandwagon, New Englanders are pretty engaged sports fans -- rain or shine. By the way, just not winning the world series doesn't really make one a loser. The Red Sox had plenty of great teams and players that made paying attention worthwhile despite not winning the "big one." They have about 750 straight sell outs and draw more rode attendance than other teams and have done so well before 2004. They are hardly "trendy."

having spent time in the mid-west and the pacific coast before and since the BoSox finally won the series I can assure you that they are definitely a "trendy" team to be a fan of. Of course they have had and always will have a strong fan base in the Northeast, but there is no doubt that they have a huge bandwagon that people have hopped on.

Well, I'm a NE guy so I'll trust what you say about other parts of the country. I also think that the great population migration from the NE to other parts of the country could be a factor, and the success revived the memories they shared with their grandfathers, etc. I know, I always will remember listening to the games with my grandfather.

I have a good friend whose wife is from R.I. She never watched a baseball game as long as he was married to her (28 years). Her dad was a Sox fan and when he was passing (bout with cancer) she watched all the games with him. He's gone now and she watches every game now on the DTV. Sports alliances can be complex.

My appreciation of that game is not because my team won. It was all about the fight. There's lots of baseball to go but probably not like that game. It was good baseball that day.

As a lifelong die-hard Yankee fan, I'll be surprised if they beat the Angels. They've had their number the last 7-8 years.

The Yanks won their first series in Anaheim since '04 or '05 last month so that plus the fact that they're playing good now gives me some hope.

Either way I think it'll be a good series

Mom! Is that you? (Only my mother ever called me Billy when I was a kid)
It's kind of strange that you brought this thread back to life. It's certainly not to rub my nose in the Sox loss, as I wasn't very proud of the way they got into the playoffs anyway. No, the fight, the aggression, the drive to win wasn't there and I blame the manager. (Yes, I'm the only Sox fan who isn't falling all over himself loving Francona)
Anyway, the game that started this thread was impressive, aggressive baseball that made both sides proud. I haven't seen that kind of hustle in either team in a long time.
Here's to next year. May they find the fire they lost.
