Thoughts on the "Beast"

I don't see or hear much about the 26237ST aka "Beast". Though this is the reincarnated version of the original one that kickstarted the Offshore craze in 1993, it is still fairly the same DNA.

It seems strange that we don't see or hear more about them on the forum. What's your thought about the "Beast"?

I've had both on the wrist. Reedition is ok, but i feel they could have made it more special instead of just remaking the same outer case.

The original was a "better" watch inside. Had a full antimagnetic soft iron cage, a 4hz movement from JLC, and it was a tiny bit thinner.

Unlike the 15202 where they stuck to the original specs and improved the dial, the 26237ST is an original look alike rather than a modern iteration of a classic. I still like the 26237ST but just still a bit let down when i saw it andhad a good look at the specs.

But you can find 25721s on the market for quite a bit cheaper than 26237ST. The titanium 25721TI with the baton dial is currently the most value out of all the iterations.

Someone called? Just picked one up a week ago. I think it's awesome, impressive wrist presence and delightful details:

Of all the 42 mm ROO Chronographs, the “Beast” is my favorite. Plus I’m a big fan of Emmanuel Gueit

Yes, We often talk about Genta, but Emmanuel Gueit contributed significantly to the legend of AP. The 42mm Offshore is a true icon in its own right.

It’s a beautiful watch but the sheer size and thickness of the watch will collect scratches/dings easily. For a watch that size, I would opt for a 44 ROO with CE bezel.

Hard to disagree - I haven't reached a state of zen where I'd wear this as a daily and not care about dings and dents. Special occasions only, for now.

Thankfully I already have a 44 ROO with CE bezel and a 15500.
The beast would be an add on to those.

Its great. Very close to the original but for the movement, works well on blue rubber and will always be classic. Love mine.

I've been looking to add an offshore for awhile and this checks many of my boxes. Does anyone know how hard is it to get the 26237st at the boutiques?

I got mine with ~1month wait (just needed to be shipped from Switzerland, I guess) in Taipei. Only prior purchase was a grey dial 15500 a year ago. But I have spent a lot of time in that boutique

Can someone explain to me what makes a Beast a Beast? Specs? History? This is a new one for me and I’d like to learn more about it.

Great read, thanks. Unless you want that vintage feel, I wonder if going new is the way to go. Especially since it may be that much harder trying to find a good condition vintage one.
