Speedmasters are tough

Mainly posting because so many people tend to think nicer watches=fragile which I have never found to be true. I rode a 21 mile offroad sweep lap Saturday for a mountainbike marathon race. Conditions were muddy, cool, and some periods of drizzling rain mixed in.
My watch isn't babied, it's currently on its bracelet with the adjustable clasp conversion. Enjoy your passions ladies and gentlemen.

brave man! I use a Tudor chrono with a rubber strap when I'm riding my MB. Not ever comfortable with the bracelet while doing exercise.

I would expect almost any watch to survive this degree of vibration for about three hours, but I wish I was more confident about Speedmaster’s water resistance when compared to some other watches.

I am confident to swim, steam etc with my Seikos, Tag and Rolex, but not so much with my Speedmasters.

After reading about the tests that NASA put the Speedies through, I never again doubted their toughness. I wear mine through everything I do with complete confidence and it has never let me down.

Do you swim with it on?

I don't know if I'm getting needlessly paranoid about Speedy water resistance!

Swim at your own risk....brand new -surface swimming should be fine (50M water resistance). It's tough watch, but not a diver. I have a Cal321 pre-moon and don't baby it but it doesn't get wet.

Whenever in doubt, read up on the NASA testing. They beat the crap out of it.

Probably the most durable chronograph ever built!

With the exception of water. There’s no water in space.

These are my thoughts as well.

It's a pity that it isn't more water resistant.

So it's probably the most durable watch for conditions it's not used in by virtually everyone who buys it!

I just want to swim with it on, it's not too much ask of a new watch is it?

How deep do you guys swim?

If it’s new and under warranty, go for it.

If it’s older and you’re not sure about the seals, get it serviced and pressure tested, then go for it.

No kidding. All the pics I have seen of damaged watches after bike spills. I'm going with the G-Shock

Don't wear a watch that would break your heart to say goodbye to for any physical activity

I wear my Apple Watch. Plus, it tracks mileage, heart rate, speed, etc.

That’s what I bought it for.

I wore my clear back Speedmaster swimming in the Pacific and it never dawned on me that it wasn’t too water resistant

Thanks for posting this OP, and chapeau to you for wearing your Speedy for how it was intended - doing stuff!

While I don’t have a Speedmaster myself (yet) I intend to wear all my watches to join me on my activities and adventures

I don't ride hard enough I think, no spills yet. I have a suunto I occasionally use, my G shock is for painting!

Just be careful. I was wearing my Tudor Pelagos two years ago when I got in a nasty skiing accident. My jacket pulled up at some point when I was skidding down the hill and I scraped my bracelet up pretty good. Held up better than my knee though. I still wear the Pelagos when doing anything rough, but I’ll probably pick up a g-shock at some point.

Appreciate those who wear their watches. But just because you could - doesn't mean you should. I know the case is fairly bulletproof, but why subject the movement to unnecessary vibrations or shocks? Just my two pennies. Congrats on the MTB stuff. Fellow CX racer myself. Looks like a fun route.
