6007A v. 5522A
Well, any thoughts on the 6007A now that some time has passed. Plus points are the limited edition, blue dial, date function, lume, and legibility. On the down side it's about $80K.
I can 'trade up' by parting with my 5522A and put that towards the 6007A? I have other 'less desireable' pieces such as Milgaus, Explorer II, and Saxonia large date... Mostly just a discussion, any thoughts appreciated. |

I live my 5522. I think the 42mm size is perfect and the simplistic nature of the watch is timeless. Keep the 5522.

I think is a good move to cash in on the 5522, and get the watch that you really want. To each it’s own , but I find the 5522 awfully boring and that calatrava is way more interesting in my eyes. Alternatively if you like chronos , you could also look into the 5170’s
Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd prefer your 5522A by country mile over the 6007A which doesn't do anything for me (ok, it has got a nice strap).

Interesting topic. The 6007 is an amazing piece, far better on the wrist than photos suggest and the dial is mesmerising changing from deep blue to light grey with the addition of the lovely centre texture. Strap is one of Patek’s best. As to what you should do, can’t help there, except to say if the 5522A doesn’t get wrist time then perhaps it’s time to look to swop it out for the 6007 or indeed for something else that appeals.

5522a 600 pieces > 6007a 1000 pieces....

To me the 5522 was a game changer. I have zero intentions of ever selling mine.

i believe the 6007 dial is printed which is a turnoff to me although the steel case is tempting (but at steel case prices not gold prices).
IMO, the patek that are slightly away from the line DNA have short destirability lifespan like the 3960, 5153, 6006, 5522 and 6007. i admire the references that stick to patek DNA

It’s when one handles pieces such as the 6007 that you realise that there must be a few people at Patek that really do have a sense of humour (despite being Swiss).
I had the opportunity to get a 6007 at retail but just couldn’t bring myself to buy it in good faith. Aside from a stamped dial you’d expect on a watch at a fifth of the price, the transparent case back with the print on it is simply laughable. Motivated by nostalgia and a sense of mirth, I bought a Seiko street fighter 2 watch at the end of last year and it has exactly this type of budget print on the back. To be expected on a 300gbp watch but not a PP. In fact the two have quite a lot in common between them in terms of overall quality which seems fitting as the 6007 literally looks like the sort of thing a teenager might have worn in the mid 90’s. It would have got zero wear and it would only have made sense to buy it with the intention of selling it - which I’d never have been able to do for fear of pissing off my AD. There are literally dozens of limited edition PP’s from previous years that did the job of making a few totally indoctrinated customers feel special at the time but were quickly forgotten (with resale premiums also a distant memory). Getting rid of your 5522 probably is a good idea but replacing it with a 6007 is most certainly not. |

The responses on this thread tell you all you need to know. Buy what you like, not what you think is going to be valuable.

All good points. The sentiment of 'buy what you like' is of utmost importance. There is a fun component 'the investment' but anyone that goes in eyes wide open knows there are many better 'legitimate' investments out there.

These aren’t investments. They are a passion. If I can wear a watch and break even a few years later if I want to swap out- bonus. But to actually make money- rare and frankly even if you do- probably better places to get a higher return. Hence buy what you like.

I was SO excited to get a 6007a but have to be honest that I rarely wear it. The dial is quite attractive IMO, stamped or not. But the case is too simple and the strap proportions bother me — the taper from 22mm to 16mm is too much for me on a tang buckle.
That said, I still prefer it by quite a lot to the 5522a. |

For $80k you have better options. I love Patek, don’t get me wrong, but a stamped dial in steel, just get a Voutilainen for the same price (and you get a much nicer dial) and spec it out as you like. It doesn’t have the PP name, but I would argue a better name for a watch collector.

I’m lookng forward to the new releases at the end of the month and really hope they have more 42mm pieces. I have my grail watch incoming so not sure I’m In the market for anything else at the moment but really hoping the new calatravas are a bit bigger than the previous offerings. |

Trading from an imitation IWC to an imitation JLC and adding $30K cash doesn't seem like a great move to me. I've gotta agree with GB-man, there's a lot of other, tastier, fish in the sea for that kind of money.

We have very similar tastes it seems. Already own the Datograph. Been looking at WG Odysseus as well. Got most of the Journe covered. As for the 6007a, the logo on the case back makes me sour to the piece a bit. Very clean. Not $80k clean. |

6007a is very nice but I also vote for 5522A, which I wear the most of all my watches. It's a very sporty, cool watch.

5522A all day long. That would be one of my favourite modern Calatravas. Wouldn't give that up for 6007A.
