I can only afford one submariner

For the time being, I can only afford one submariner.

Originally, I really loved the color of 126610LV... the problem was that I have never seen submariner in the real life

Yesterday, I had a chance to meet someone who was wearing a black sub and it looked amazing. My first time seeing one in the wild!

For some reason, subs look very different than what I expected from the pictures. It looked even better in person.

So now I am debating whether I should get 126610LV or LN. Due to my financial situation, I can only get one and I will probably not buy another one for at least several years.

What do you guys think? is green sub (not hulk) too "flashy" as my only submariner? should I go with black sub which is more all-around and versatile? I really wish I get to try both green and black sub in person and decide

Go for the black sub first, you've seen it for real and it is a great way into Rolex.

Get the LN first, and perhaps last. It has truly stood the test of time, and it will be a pleasure for you to wear. Best wishes

If you do go with a black sub, you owe it to yourself to strongly consider the 41.

Black for first one

MSRP at AD or grey market?

If grey market the black is also much less expensive

Coming from owning a true all green LVC, Black LN is much more versatile. It not only goes with everything but it also looks best with everything. The reality is the green got old for me and became this overpowering color. When I want color I go for blue as it still works better with any styling than green.

How can THE icon be wrong??

LV now if you can afford it. It’s discontinued and you may not be able to afford it down the line. You can always pick up an LN. The LV may be crazy money.

I agree with all of this. - green is a very hard colour to dress accordingly with - if that bothers you of course.

That is a simple truth most of us that have larger collections that have been in this for decades will admit. The black Sub would be our one and only if we had to pick one Rolex. I waited for the new Sub41 knowing this update was probably going to be significant in every way. It’s damn near perfect now.

Green sub not an option without big gray premium or lots of AD spend. So reasonably speaking you’re looking at LN. I second the no date vote.

The cyclops date window is such an iconic part of Rolex. My first Rolex over 40 years ago was a Sub date. Fantastic watches to this day!!

This is totally personal preference.

Some people don't like green but I always love green. I have the Hulk, the Kermit II, YG Daytona green dial and Day-Date Olive dial.

All Subs are great and I have them all which one sings to you the most goes for that one.

Black Sub can goes with everything but the Kermit II with black dial and green bezel can goes with a lot of things too.

If you decide to go for black Sub ND, I think you should go to visit Rolex boutique and express your true interest, you might get lucky to get one from them with the short wait time. Sub ND isn't as hard to get as Sub Date.

The black sub, sub date, and green date sub are all incredible pieces and you can’t go wrong with any of the 3.

I'd go green myself (and have done with the previous 11 series model). But it's really up to you. Do you have a strong preference? If the black Sub knocked you over, the green one might knock you over further. It's an impossible call to make for someone else.

When I first met a Sub Date for real at my AD it was the 16610LV. To me it was a huge disappointment. When I met the 116610LV it was the opposite. I wasn't sure about the green dial but like you, when I got to see and hold one, it was twice as nice as I thought it would be for quality, finish and overall aesthetic. I'm not surprised the 12 Sub hit you this way.

I wanted to add a Sub to my collection, but found the band with its large clasp very uncomfortable. My guess is that if you buy anything but the black Sub with the date, you will regret the decision. I have a friend who used to manage a Rolex dealership said she sold 10 date Subs to everyone no date.

Who needs two subs anyways, one is just more than enough. Sexiest watch ever... I would go LN.

The current SUB is absolutely one of the nicest since the five digits. Impossible to make the wrong choice, Date, No date, or LV.

That is because they make more sub dates. There are 8 current sub versions, only one without a date. The submariner is more rare. All 3 ads near me told me the sub and sub date black have about the same waiting list now.

The 12 sub is the most comfortable sub I have ever worn, and that includes the previous 11 version. I don’t even notice the clasp, other than it adds more balance.

A ton of people say for your first Sub you need to go with black. I started out with an LVc (Hulk) and have never regretted it. I wear it with anything and my fashion conscious wife never has an issue with it.

I did recently have the chance to see the Kermit II in person. This was a watch I previously had poo-poo'd in favor of the Hulk, but I have to say it was a very pretty piece. Even my wife really liked it and thought it would be a good ADDITION to the Hulk - we both thought it looked that different.

All this being said, green is my favorite color. The black Subs are very pretty as well with a quiet elegance to them. You really can't go wrong and will love whichever you decide to pick up!
