Biographies... What's your favorite?

I just read a book called Empire of the Summer Moon. It details the life of Quanah Parker, maybe the baddest Comanche warrior of all time. In any case the book is absolutely riveting and for now is the best biography I ever read. What are some of the favorites here?

A couple days ago I finished reading The Killing Of Crazy Horse. The baddest Lakota and for that matter the baddest American Indian of all. Two thumbs up.

I know a little bit about Parker but you’ve got me interested. It’s now on my reading list. Thanks

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby

I couldn't find the book so I had to see the movie, although I heard it wasn't as good or in depth as the book.

One of my all time favorites was American Caesar the bio of Douglas MacArthur. If you’re a WWII buff this is a must read.

My pleasure. It’s about 400 pages and chock full of interesting details of Lakota peoples lives and Sioux Wars against the US starting with Red Cloud. Excellent research went into the book. If you like the history of the American Indian tribes like I do, I’ll wager you love it.

Oh yeah, I love that stuff. Particularly the horse tribes of the plains. The toughest tough guys in the history of this continent.

You beat me to it
I loved that book.

I will add
Truman by David McCullough

Makes a good historical counterpoint to the life of MacArthur

I also finished up a book called Rebel Yell, which is an exhaustive biography of Stonewall Jackson. Seriously good.

From some years back, but really enjoyed When Pride Still Mattered by David Maraniss (about Vince Lombardi)

That is on my nightstand right now waiting on me to finish War and Remembrance.

Titan, by Ron Chernow, was the best bio I have read to date. It was about JD Rockefeller.

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. Widely speculated to be the biography of Jesse Livermore, who was a famous stock trader. I love this book - its about the only one I will read repeatedly.
