So you've included your watch(es) with your homeowner's policy? Or is it a separate policy?

How does an auto policy insure your personal jewelry? And for so cheap. Is it a Florida thing?

Long ago with my home. Learned that I don't want that and coverage leaves a lot ot be desired. Switched to Jewelers Mutual. Now I have half with Jewelers Mutual (customer service isn't as good as it used to be) and half with Hodinkee. I'd recommend Hodinkee - no appraisal and less hassle. Underwritten by chubb.

I added a personal articles policy to my automobile insurance. It’s not my auto insurance. I don’t know, maybe they feel they rip me off enough on my car insurance.

Tried them all from adding to existing home owners, JM, and currently with Hodinkee.

Can't to speak to how any of them actually respond to a claim so can only comment on ease of policy changes, pricing, and responsiveness. Hodinkee so far has been the best balance of those factors for me.

Home Owners only covers up to $5k and has deductible.

The correct way to insure is with personal article insurance, it requires an appraisel as well.

I'm paying ~$66 per year per watch under my personal article insurance policy, no deductible.

I'm also with State Farm but would not recommend putting it on your homeowners. They offer a "personal articles" policy which insures jewelry with more favorable terms (much lower deductible, greater coverage, etc). It's not super cheap though, so you may cross shop a dedicated company like Jewelers Mutual or Hodinkee. In my case the personal articles policy ends up being roughly $10/month per $10k of insured items.

I don’t necessarily agree. It’s pretty cheap compared to car insurance rates. If your payment was $10 for $10,000 in coverage it would take you 83.3 yrs to pay the 10k. That’s cheap if you ask me.

Does anyone have experience with getting an appraisal for market value as opposed to MSRP? My AD provides an appraisal with the purchase price, but nothing beyond that.

Any suggestions welcome.

Hmmm... Would I need an appraisal? Watch was purchased new from an AD and Hubby paid MSRP (plus applicable sales tax, of course) for it in May of this year.

Hodinkee. Coverage up to 150% of watch value and no deductible. Was the least expensiv e when I checked for 3 watches.

With State Farm you provide the receipt and that’s what it’s insured for and then they raise it a little a year for appreciation. If it gains lots of equity out the door just get an appraisal and send it in and they up your policy.

USAA 'Valuable Personal Property' policy ... I looked into others and they were similar for similar coverage - your mileage may vary

I have a personal articles policy with State Farm as well. Apart from my homeowners policy which is with another company. I insure the more expensive things with State Farm and the less expensive things with my homeowners which has a 5K limit. I self insure the gap.

I have limited options here in CA. Tried Jewelers Mutual but they don't offer services in CA. Believe Hodinkee is same. Homeowners was really super expensive..if remembering correctly like $100/mo for one watch

What do you mean "they don't offer services in CA"? Both Jewelers Mutal and Hodinkee have provided online quotes for me, and both sites had me put in my home Zip Code before proceeding. Can you give a little more info on why you say neither one offers services in California?
