INCOMING Salmon..5270P!

A few thoughts on my recent acquisition, opinion for those considering a 5270P and questions for those with a manual PP. I would love to say this was my first choice, but it wasn't, I have been looking to acquire a 5740 (thanks Ichiran) and a 15202BC this year while the 5270P was third on my list, all waiting for the right deal to come but was leaning towards another watch on bracelet. Was searching for something on strap but figured that road would take me to FPJ, perhaps in the future. Taking into consideration the 5270P was the only one I haven't seen in person, which would explain why it wasn't at the very top of my list.

Few weeks back, a close friend and collector called me asking if I had any interest in his complete 5270P. That began the blackhole of research here on TRF and reading the polarizing opinions (especially when first released, recent sentiment has changed) made the decision that much more difficult with no optionality of seeing it in person. Many reviews stated the watch was too big, or the dial color didn't look as good in person as photos/didn't mesh with their skintone or the black arabic numerals seemed out of place - thankfully no chin on the P. As my apprehensions increased, I decided the deal was too good to pass up on a platinum salmon PCC $50K under retail, first in house PCC, grand complication, that will likely be discontinued 1Q22 and decided to pull the trigger - figured I could move it at no loss to me if I didn't like it.

This being my second Patek, after owning a 5980 last year, it absolutely BLEW me away. Perhaps my expectations weren't unrealistically high but the 5270P in person is truly INCREDIBLE in every facet. I feared the dial to be too orange or dark at night but the dial hue is perfect and the way the sun dances off the dial is remarkable, always a beautiful true salmon shade no matter the angle or light. I wish I could capture how dynamic the dial is in person. Compared to the 15202bc which is also beautiful albeit more honey than salmon. The black markers and hands look fantastic against the dial as well as the moon phase. Platinum weight is just the right amount, I was surprised it didn't feel that much heavier than a gold watch, wears very comfortably and the perfect thickness. Case is exquisite, just the right amount of detail and sits perfetly on my wrist. Gorgeous finishing on the movement, an absolute pleasure to look at through the clear crystal back. Most of the pictures I looked at, the watch wore big, but at 41mm it fits my 6.7" wrist well although I am accustomed to wearing larger watches like the RM, I posted a fun size comparison at the end. Most of the above is personally subjective, I also believe that this watch can work on all skin types, it really is that versatile. Probably one of few watches I have owned with no complaints, I will look for a few different straps to dress it down a bit.

Beyond ecstatic with this purchase and can't foresee ever moving this out of the collection. Would like to add a nautilus on bracelet back again. If you haven't seen one in person and are considering a 5270P, I can not recommend it enough, especially at current price levels.

Few questions for those with a manual Patek as this is my first manual complication watch. How do you know when the watch is fully wound, don't want to overwind the watch if that is plausible? Secondly, is there a video or any insight how you set the calendar and watch easily after not wearing for awhile? For those who change their straps, how do you change the deployment?

Wow, beautiful reference and just in time for Christmas!

What kind of strap are you going to try out?

Once you get fully wound you'll feel the resistance on the crown. Just don't force anything and you'll be fine.

Congrats on an absolutely tremendous and incredible timepiece. My honest opinion is the 5270p will be one of those iconic timepieces in the future - especially if a salmon dial is not issued in the future iteration of the PCC.

A Patek PCC is a statement piece and to me a required piece in the collection of any distinguished gentleman. For this purpose the 3970g currently serves that spot in my collection but I have thought on many occasions to trade it for the 5270p. However for my wrist the 3970 tends to call less attention and fits better for those ultra high intensity big moments.

The 5980 is also incredible. I recently acquired one and I cannot see parting with it either.

At this point, I too am considering getting a 5270p but I have to trim the herd…so hard!

Said another way I am envious…very envious

Congrats! It’s a perfect watch in so many ways. Enjoy!

Here is all you need to know about setting it.

https://static.patek.com/pdf/instruc...9_535_PS_Q.pdf

Winding it every morning (or every few days even if it won’t be worn) is a joy so it won’t get too far behind the current date.

It’s a diablo and it’s unreal! He shared the incoming some time ago.

Congrats! You just continue winding you will feel a very noticeable resistance when fully wound. I have found my manual winds require more turns than you would typically make to get an automatic Rolex or AP etc going.
