How to buy a DJ36 from an AD?

I’ve reached out to all of the ADs in my area. So far I am hearing “don’t have one, can’t order one.” I asked to be put on a waiting list but haven’t heard back. I’m looking for a 126234 jubilee with white Roman dial. Not in a hurry, just want to get on a list and have some idea how long it will take.

ADs deal with private VIP customers only. Your only real option is to buy from a grey dealer.

I heard from my local AD that Rolex is not taking orders on anything right now. Used to be that you could order non hot references like DJ's, ladies watches, etc. However due to the big que, Rolex wants to catch up on current orders. Some of which won't be filled until 2024! That's the info that I've heard.

They should be able to get you that piece if the store is part of a bigger chain of stores.

If they really are helpful, they could check which one of their other siblings store have that piece in stock as it is one that is widely available, unless you are looking for it in two-tone everose.

Shouldn’t be that hard to get that from an AD.

In DC you will not find any inventory.

Did you check the resellers on this website?

ADs have no idea what is even coming in, or so then say, so it's impossible to order anything at the moment. The best way to go is ask for the DJ36 in three variations, top to bottom, and hope one turns up with your name on it. Holding out for an exact combo could be a long wait. There is not a big markup on the pre-owned market at the moment on this model, might make the most sense to source the exact used, but in unworn condition model you want on-line in the secondary market.

I could be entirely wrong here but I think like with the "no stock" or "reserved for another customer" lines you hear from ADs, this one is also subjective. I think it all depends on just getting lucky and speaking to the right person. After two casual stops into my AD in the last month, just last Wednesday I placed an order for a similar DJ36 (black dial, fluted, oyster). Was told it'll likely be 3-4 months but its mine when it comes in. Hope you can place a similar order soon as well!

Going into the new year with zero inventory and the rolex factory closing down as usual this time of year, even if the order got placed I don't see anything happening until mid 1st qtr 2022. Hey ask around maybe you are lucky and some AD has one.

My experience is not that there is little markup. I’m seeing prices of $9500-$10500 for an $8550 watch. I’m not in a hurry and I’d rather own it from new. I’ve owned pre owned Rolexes before. I only want an opportunity to wait and pay MSRP.

Im also looking for a dj36 in the uk and went to 5 dealers last week, all said it should be easy to get that piece next year and they expect deliveries from feb onwards, my normal ad took down a small deposit so i know i’ll get it. Keep trying and dont pay above rrp for a dj!

I’ve been on a the list since June. AD says it could be a year. Most models in the cases are “Exhibition” only it seems that getting anything just now is a challenge.

You have a good attitude. It’s always better to acquire from the boutique/AD, you get the brand new one and a peace of mind. You can also building the relationship with your SA for future purchase.

Datejust is still obtainable with some wait time, just express your interested timepiece with your SA and stop by visit them at least once a month, you should be able to get one soon.

Good luck!

It wasn't long ago that I was able to order a DJ36 for my wife. I did have a purchase history with this AD who has sourced me harder to get sports models, but I was given the impression with a tiny bit of patience that this model could be easily obtained for anyone. I told them what I was looking for, they placed some kind of configuration order, and I got it in under a month. I would search out other dealers.

So do these so called VIP or special AD relationship customers buy then sell direct to the grey market. Or do you think that ADs sell out of the back door thus risking there business and livelihood .As most all grey dealers have most all models at crazy money. Or is it because in general now Rolex watches are now little more than ££$$€€ object things and nothing more.

I was told by a local AD that I could get a DJ41 if I want it. 5 to 20 weeks is the wait time. So we’ll see.

Keep checking, I got super lucky the other day after not seeing even one watch at an AD in what is probably close to a year. Good luck!

Wrong don’t shame all the ADs. This time last year I was asking about my first Rolex in this forum and a year later I picked up my 5th all from the AD I’m not a whale I was taught early on here to only buy what I like and I that’s what I did. I have no purchase history at the ad except a pair of earrings for the wife after I got the first 2 watches already.

I ordered one and received it within a month without any of the relationship or prior sales nonsense at MSRP.

are you just calling/emailing or visiting in person?
Try visiting in person and let them know what you're looking for and be a real person
the ref and size you're looking for is not an impossible one to get from an AD

I was told by one dealer that I would need to place a NON-REFUNDABLE 30% deposit down, with no guarantee when or if the watch would come in. If I decided to cancel the order the 30% deposit can only be used as credit within their store.
This is for a Datejust 36.

Dems da rules these days....

How to buy a DJ36 from an AD?

You do have two kidneys, right? You don’t need both. ;)
