5235r vs 5905r

Hi guys I'm new to Patek but lately I'm falling in love.

I have a small collection and previously I've just acquired the zeitwerk and draw me towards leather strap watch I've learned that it's not for me (leather strap) so I'm steered to not having more than 1 leather strap watch (weather in thailand)

I'm planning to also move the blue speedmaster for the D blue if I'm able to acquire it from my AD.

Orrrr

I do really love the 5905's size but both are equally special and love rosegold watches after acquring a rg patek I'm planning to maybe move my lange to a full rg piece. As much as I love it full bracelet piece is more for me. Please share pics and opinions! I've never own a patek and this will be my first. The SA said i'll get to join the waitlist for a 5164r or 5167R as well.

Those are both fantastic watches! I love the lug design on the 5905, its awesome. Combined with the chronograph and annual calendar make for a fantastic overall design. The thickness would give me pause personally.

But the 5235r is the one I have my eye on for my first Patek. Very unique, love the dial and ghosted/engraved logo. My vote would be the 5235r. Now if the 5905 were in platinum then I might change my mind.

Dial on 5235R amazes me every time I glance from angles and looking for the hidden Patek brand lol. The back of the watch is also beautiful and the buckle is also unique. In my opinion it should have came with a gray strap.

The dial reveals two different faces, vertically brushed satin silver and dark mode

The 5235R is more special than the 5905R. The 5905 is similar in looks to the 5205 and 5960. Personally, I would get bored of the 5905 due to the size. I prefer Pateks on the thinner side like the 5235.

I have the 5205r which I like over the 5905 for the moon phase and 40mm size

Also have the 5235r which I really think is an underrated and amazing watch. Here is the brown and black straps. Have a matte grey pp leather strap on order also to compliment that slate dial which I think is one of the coolest dials on any PP watch.

Love the brown strap - do you have any pictures of the grey strap?

Is there a digital copy of the strap catalog anywhere or was this only available at the AD?

A lot of people coming from sports watch brands like Rolex, AP, Hublot, etc when they come to Patek are attracted to the 5905 due to its size. It is most similar in size and thickness to what they are used to.

People soon realize though that most Patek watches are dress watches and so instead of a metal bracelet, it comes with a leather strap. If OP is looking for a metal bracelet, a watch similar to the 5905 is the 5960 and some of them come with a metal bracelet, mainly the SS versions.

Between the 5905 and the 5235, the 5905 is definitely larger and has the heft, more in line with Rolex, etc. 5235 is slimmer and is more of a dress watch. The regulator movement is definitely something different and is attractive for many as not many watch manufacturers have regulator movements.

I would lean towards the 5905, the 5235 is quackery and a little bit unusual in telling time.
i'd rather have the normal way of telling time plus two additional complications which are: the chronograph and the day/night indicator at 6 O'clock

That's an interesting perspective and to be honest I love the fact that 5905 has a Chrono as it's an complication I can play with from time to time.

This is true as I do prefer the size and thickness of the 5905R and feel that it's such a masculine and classy piece at the same time. I think the 5905 is a watch I think suits me well whilst the 5235 is a more interesting piece if that make sense.

you have a good point, i find the chronograph a very useful function
also the day/night indicator is useful when quickly setting up a calendar watch to avoid damaging internal mechanism
