Issue 124060 Sub

Hey guys,
a few days ago I've purchased an unworn 124060 Submariner no date from a trustworthy jeweler with box and papers.
Even after checking the jeweler (on market since 2002) and talking with him I had some concerns regarding authenticity.
Therefor I called a few licensed Rolex concessionaires nearby and got lucky. One of them was doing authenticity checkups for a few bucks.

I grabbed the watch and papers, and drove instantly to him.
The watchmaker himself was very friendly and directly analyzed the watch from the outside. He asked about the seller and told me that he has no doubt regarding authenticity of the watch.
Anyway I've asked him, if he didn't want to open the watch to check inside. He told me he can, but he doesn't think it's necessary. Every detail was right. Even though the service till yet was without charge. If I want him to open it, it will cost
and will take 1-2 weeks. He seemed very experienced and told me he had a lot of fakes in his hands, so he knows what to look for. So I thanked him and went home.

Of course it wasn't enough for me, I still had doubts. So I called him on the next day and kindly asked him to open it up, regardless how long it will take. I just want to be sure for 100 % that the watch is a genuine one. Otherwise I couldn't sleep well. He understood and told me to drive by with the watch. He will take a look and check the factory numbers on the inside.
So once again I went to him and gave him the watch. He opened it up, made a few pictures, checked the numbers and told me that the watch is 100 % genuine. So again, I drove home happy.

Meanwhile a good friend of mine send me a link to fake check a submariner.
After clicking me through the website I saw one picture which made me curious.
A gap between the lugs and the SEL.

I looked at my watch and it has a gap as well at 10.
It's small, but you can spot it with the eye.
I've also noticed that the oyster band on top at 12 feels a little bit loose. So I can move it left-right. Below at 6 it feels tight and has no movement at all.

Since than every f... time I look at my watch, I see this gap.
It makes me furious. Even though I had no doubt in authenticity anymore, it bothers me. And I don't want to call the concessionaire again :D

Is it possible that a gen Submariner 124060 has a gap between the lugs and the SEL?
And is it possible to get this fixed by Rolex? Did anyone has experience with getting it fixed?

Thanks a lot and sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker :)

U are good, have an authentic watch. Time to enjoy it and stop obsessing looking for issues, if you keep looking you are bound to find something!

Always buy the buyer and not the watch and you can sleep easy.

How much did you pay for this watch? Sounds like it’s 100% authentic. Enjoy!

Can you show us the pictures that he took of the movement. Nobody can really offer an opinion of any value based in your perception of a wiggly bracelet.

Seems like OP is type of person who's torcher himself at any single, tiny thing.
OP, enjoy your watch nothing is wrong with it. And stop worrying at everything, it shorten your life.
There's saying: "Enjoy life, it has an expiration date".

Send it to RSC and ask them about the gap. During this process your watch will be authenticated and you will be told if the gap is within tolerance.

Stop obsessing or just sell it and only buy from ADs next time.

Yeah buying secondhand does not seem to be the way to go for you at all. You’re gonna end up with some hair loss worrying about a watch you already got authenticated from a seller that, as you’ve stated has been around for 20 years. They’d have a real hard time being in business that long selling fakes or frankens. Take a step back and buy from an AD

You're overthinking it. This is a mass-produced watch. Look long and hard enough and you'll likely find some imperfection(s).

The only thing I would worry about is if the bracelet is moving because the spring bar isn’t correctly seated..

Don‘t worry about the SEL gap! On most of the Rolexes iv‘e had so far, the endlinks weren‘t 100% tight. There always is a bit of lateral and vertical play.
Enjoy your watch!

Don't ever buy a second hand anything ever again.

If you must buy second hand, have the item examined by a professional prior to your purchase, not after.

Hey guys,
thanks for your responses.
Actually I uploaded pictures but somehow they are not visible.
I try it again below this post.

Yep you are absolutely right, I am very picky and "scared" if buying outside officially authorized sellers. But mainly because of the growing replica market which also brings out more and more detailed and authentic look a like watches.
This is my 3rd watch, but the 1st which I didn't buy from a Rolex concessionaire.
And yes, you can say why do you do that if u are scared being scammed.

From day one the submariner was my dream watch, but at the beginning with my first Rolex I couldn't afford it.
Unfortunately after being able to afford that one, I couldn't buy it from my concessionaire because of the market. He put me on the list years ago but there is no silver lining yet and won't within the next years.
But on the other hand the prices explode as well for the models I own. So I decided selling my AirKing and pay overprice for my dream watch.

But as you guys know, there is no other way right now getting those watches from a concessionaire.

So sorry if I bother anyone with questions regarding authenticity etc. but I love the sub and I couldn't wait longer getting it :(

Hopefully you can see the pictures now :)

Thank you

If there was no like you put gap, how to you thing the bracelet could move and flex while on your wrist, your watch is fine. Now wearing and enjoying it for the next 20 plus years in good health now thats far more than important. And can assure you no trustworthy jeweller would risk his business name in selling you a not authentic watch. Might I suggest you throw away all high magnification products as they can and will be a new Rolex owners worst enemy.

Rolex isn‘t perfect. You will always find slight QC variations, especially when examining up close.

This!

There has to be a small gap and a little play or the bracelet could not be fitted and the spring bars would not seat.

Despite all the current hype (and current used/grey pricing), Rolex is not ALS.

Rolex watches are (IMO) worth their RRP in terms of build, so what you have is £7,150 watch. As nice as they are, they're still mass produced in the hundreds of thousands each year, and so micron-level tolerances on every single piece they produce just isn't possible.

If it's been opened up by a trained watchmaker, you can rest assured it's 100% genuine as even the so called "superclone" movements are an easy spot.

You guys who scoff at his concerns and suggest only buying it from am AD are forgetting about the hundreds of thousands of really good fakes out there, and that most people simply cannot buy a new Rolex from an authorized dealer. Have some compassion, please!
