New Watch Day - Yee 'ol Sub - 16610

After months of contemplation (14060 vs 16610) and arguably too many hours scouring TRF for guidance, I now have a Swiss only 16610 Sub on the wrist. After one day, I am smitten. I’ve been wearing a Tudor 79090 for some time now and felt compelled to make the leap, and while subjective, from my perspective it is certainly a leap.

For those interested, I have a wee little 6.25” on a good day wrist. I tried on a few newer subs though they simply look comical on my wrist. I ended up narrowing it down to a late 90’s 16610 without SELs to allow a more natural drape on my wrist. While the 16610 is certainly more significant and larger than the Tudor, it actually paradoxically fits better. I haven’t been able to home in specifically “why” it fits better though think it might actually be the more robust bracelet, given it’s thicker it shows more outside of the case when looking straight down than the Tudor does. Also, it simply stays centered on my wrist better. It’s fitted with 5 links on both 6 and 12 o’clock. The downside is the clasp isn’t centered while the head is, though have not had any discomfort (yet). The Tudor sat differently with the clasp centered but no matter what adjustments I made I could not keep the head centered.

Attached are a few terrible pictures for y’all. I’m far from an expert on watch pics and props to everyone who snaps good ones.

Next step… what to do with the Tudor? Flip for a vintage DateJust… I sense this will never end :)

Thanks all for the invaluable feedback and information you have indirectly provided me over the years. And for those that think it’s too big for my wrist, bugger off ;)

Perfect. My wrist is only slightly bigger and I was super worried it’d be too big.
It’s not. At all. Congratulations it looks outstanding

16610 wears nicer than the 14060 in my opinion, because i prefer the added thickness - the 14060 feels almost like a bracelet to me, which i do like, but prefer the bulkier feeling of the 16610. And for me the 16600 is great but does not wear as great as the 16610. All of that being said, great pick.

Thanks all and I had considered the 16600 as well. Aesthetically, it’s actually my preference though the 16610 sat materially better on wrist.

Nice Sub!

Happy to see another local guy enjoying a watch! I am a fan of the 79090 and the 16610 too!

Congrats! Very wise choice- it’s a classic piece and I agree with the 14060M comparison. Even though the ND was my “grail” piece I never warmed up to the weak presence on my 7” flat wrist and have been much happier with the 114060 I was able to buy new from the AD.

Would still love a 16610, though- they truly are as versatile as it gets. Nice to see a proper wrist shot with context- a much more useful demonstration of how the watch wears.

Big congrats. It's an all-around fantastic reference, and it looks amazing on your wrist. I've had a 16600 SD since 2005, but never a 16610. I righted that wrong last summer when I was able to acquire a beautiful Z-serial 16610. I am so happy with the 5-digit Sub Date. Hope you thoroughly enjoy yours.

Congrat's on yer ol' sub date!! A DJ would be a great addition if you're not going to wear the Tudor. Maybe trade or one? Enjoy your sub!!

I have a 14060m and a small wrist. I took the bracelet off and put back on backward which helped the clasp non-centering issue

Congrats, that's a classic. There is actually room to add the 14060 to the collection. It's a pretty dynamic 5-digit duo.

PNW unite! While I’ve recently moved to the east side, albeit a bit further than you (North Bend), I still make the trek to Seattle proper for work occasionally. I’ve noticed a stand-alone Rolex AD in the process of opening up downtown.

Congratulations looks great, looking at the way it sits on your wrist I think you could definitely pull off any of the pre super case Subs.
My Subs are still my favorites in my collection. Can’t wait to see where this addicting hobby take you next… and so the journey begins. ;) 16613,16618 and so on.
Welcome the the Fam and wear in good health.

Very nice! I could potentially see adding a 16600 down the road, time will tell. It really is a beauty.
