Icon20 Keep SS Daytona or OF

A change of circumstance (new baby) means one of my watches will have to go. Which would you keep between SS Black Daytona 116500 or Oysterflex RG 116515. Both bought at retail list price. Thanks for advice.

If you need to sell one, I’d recommend selling both. 40k won’t go far with a baby.

How often do you wear each? Is there greater sentimental value attached to one over the other?

Sorry I do need to ask a deeper question, is a watch sale really going to be a solution?

you don’t need £40k for a new baby. Be inventive. Don’t buy top a range everything buy secondhand oran, cot etc (accept car seat). Buy toys and clothes etc for charity shop. Use reusable nappy. A baby doesn’t care about what you buy it but the time you spend and what you teach it.

I love how the OP asks a question between this or that and then gets offered life advice!

I would lose the 116515.

Congrats on the new baby!

A baby puts everything into perspective very quickly. Congratulations! Being a parent is the most important thing any of us could do. I'd sell the one that would bring in the amount of money you need.

Congrats - sell the of. The SS can be worn with a rubber b for a similar look. Good luck

I would try to keep them both.

However if you absolutely have to sell, the RG OF simply because it’s easier to buy back when you need to. I actually prefer it from these 2.

Not sure if it's easier to buy back, PM OF Daytonas are also selling with crazy premium so both in high demand. I would say just keep the one you like most and wear more often. I think the PM OF is more special but the SS is more iconic/versatile. If you have a large collection with other Rolex steel bracelet, OF PM can add some variety and different style.

I have posted a poll asking about potential trade up of SS white dial for a WG OF and with around 200 votes, it's close to 50/50.

I prefer SS but which do you wear more?
I don't care much for OF although it is a good looking watch.

I’d keep black SS Daytona and sell the RG OF version to get more money for your baby.

Hahaha this genuinely got a laugh. Thanks :)

Sheesh I don’t know which I would sell. I don’t love love either. Hmm I’d sell the SS as I have borrow the father in laws for a few months and it’s not super legible. I have tried on the RG at my AD and it’s felt really good on the wrist.

However, OP, you should keep which ever is a little more special to you

Thank you all for the comments so far... sell the baby! Buy second hand clothes, maybe trade in the other half at the same time :)

I’m happy with one Daytona (OF or SS) plus my daily wearer (a g shock) which to keep though *♂️

Can assure you that your new baby are far more important than any watch, so if needed sell them both they are just watches nothing more.

Sell the OF. Wear the SS and pass it down to your kid.

Keep the SS.

Definitely don’t bother giving financial support to the kids stuff industry. Let your child(ren) grow up simply not caring about fashion, brands and labels and they can make their own mind up about it later.

Second hand/swaps clothes is the way to go!

Congrats on the best incoming of all!

Like others have mentioned, sell the OF. You can always put a Rubber B strap on the SS Daytona to get a similar look and feel.

Regardless of your decision, enjoy and cherish your time with the newborn. They do grow up quickly!

I’d keep the SS black Daytona. That’s an absolute favorite in my collection and likely the only one that’s untouchable. Congrats on the baby!

I’m personally not a fan of most RG, but a fan of PM over SS, in most cases.
So in your case…I’d keep the RG if you love RG, (PM > SS) but, at the end of the day….keep the one you enjoy the most.
Me personally, I’d keep SS, because I’m not fond of RG on OF in the Daytonas. If the OF was YG, or WG, I’d be keeping the OF.

It's easier to have another baby than to buy another Daytona at retail.

Just saying.

I'm partial to the oysterflex although not a RG fan. And the SS bracelet can be resized to your kid's wrist (it's a pain getting a new oysterflex fitting). Which one is more sentimental to you? It's a personal choice.

I'd pick keep the S/S in this case.

Congrats, I have a few new babies myself :)
Ditch the OF, and keep the classic SS.
It’s a great time to sell. Take advantage of the inflated market.
