What annual or perpetual calendar watch would you buy?

Hi TRF,
I am saving money right now and planning to get a beautiful calendar watch next.
For the same budget/price point, would you buy the Blancpain Villeret perpetual calendar or Patek Philippe annual calendar 5205/5396?
(note that I could not stretch the money to get a Patek perpetual calendar, it is out of my league and plain too expensive.)

Blancpain Villeret perpetual calendar:

or

Patek Philippe annual calendar 5205/5396:

Look forward to your suggestions!

Current collection: 1) Rolex Submariner(116610LV), 2) Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional(311.30.42.30.01.006), 3) Zenith Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Rescue(03.2434.4069/20.I010)

My favorite is the 5205g, which in fact I just got yesterday. Pondered against the 5396 for a long while but they wear very different and there is just something so quintessentially Patek about the dial layout of the 5205.

Patek were the ones who created the annual calendar. 5205 is an absolute stunner, the one that got away and I regret for not buying.

The most important thing is to purchase what you like and what makes you truly happy! Based on one of your comments, it sounds like this is a significant investment for you, so don't follow the trend but your heart.

If I were in your shoes, I would go for the 5205R which is one of my favourite PP. The combination of rose gold and the deep black dial is stunning. Added bonus, you may not make money when you resell it, but you would most definitely not lose any unlike with the Blancpain.

Thank you all for your comments. I will consider whether to purchase annual or perpetual calendar later down the road.

I am going to save for a Rolex Day-Date first.

Not on your list but for many including myself the answer has got to be 3940.

Of those options I’d go 5205. If you are open to other options in the same price range, get a perpetual 3940

I've been solely interested in SS Rolex watches in the past decade and have finally decided to venture into Patek Philippe territory, and I've been contemplating on a 5396G as my first, the only problem I have is that my lifestyle and work environment pretty much prohibits me from wearing it on a daily basis, but yeah if I were to pull the trigger I'd pick the 5396G.

I’m biased, but just added this beauty to my collection.

My full review of the 5320g in a separate thread.

Good luck on the hunt, continue to do your DD and see which reference speaks to you!

Of the references you mention = 5205

5212 is also unique if a Calendar function is the goal.

It seems OP is not quite ready for a Patek AC/PC at the moment. He should definitely get a Rolex DD if his heart is set on it. Patek AC/PC will still be around when he is ready at a later time and there are many great references to choose from.

I just can't imagine a Patek ever being the wrong choice. Rolex and Patek have always served me rather well.

So you abounded your idea of buying a calendar watch and are going for a Rolex Day Date now?

Sorry big mistake to stay in Rolex league when you have an opportunity to get into Patek league
