What about this looks fake to you?

I'm trying to pick up some of the finer points of spotting a fake - I got this from an old thread here

what looks wrong with this to you?

also what does "Crown guards shaped wrong...." mean?

Thanks again for all your expertise!!!

also is there an old thread that goes over some of the good ways to spot fakes - like hand length etc? I searched but had no luck

Crown guards are not present on this particular watch. The crown guards (when looking at the Submariner, for example) go around the crown and are designed to protect the crown.

This watch's dial is off, bezel is clearly aftermarket, the lugs seem to be the wrong size...

That champagne dial is so off and looks badly water damaged, If that fakeroo has ever seen a service I'll eat my hat The gold on the band looks like its about to peal off, nice and crusty looking.

Also the bidder is a fake, typical shillbidding, low feedback and is now not registered :-)

Only a matter of time for this to be relisted *wink*

when you say its "off" you mean it just doesn't look like a genuine rolex dial should right? Do you mean the color or do you mean what is on it?

this one is real ( i think )

This is what that dial should look like, beveled edge around the day window and the surrounds on the brilliant cut diamonds should be thick :-)

This one does the the baguette diamonds at the 6 and 9 but there is no comparison between the fake and the genuine :-)

This would be the genuine 100% factory dial and bezel from Demsey -

This is a newer DD, has the roman numerals around the edge of the dial but the bezel design would be the same all the way through until the DD-2, larger bezel :-)

thanks again! - what year did they start with the roman numerals on the dial like that? Also do diamond bezel ones usually have the diamonds on the dial too?

Do the lack of bagettes on the dial usually indicate a fake?

Not 100% on the exact year of the roman numerals, My DJ has them on its champagne dial, purchased back in '94and my DD also had the same purchased a few years later :-) I opted out of the brilliants and diamond bezel :-) a bit too blingy for me.

I have friends that have purchased the DJ and DD a few years earlier late 80's that had not roman numerals around the edge of the dial, so it might have been early 90's they were intro'd. the DJ's didn't come with the baguette cut only the DD's from memory, DJ's had the brilliant cut at all points minus the 3 for the date window, if I'm wrong there one of the guys will jump in and correct me on that

that makes sense. I don't ever seem to recall seeing a DD with brilliants at the 6 and 9
