What do ADs hide in the safe?

Here is a question to speculate over. There have been quite a few posts of individuals walking into an AD with no purchasing history, starting a nice conversation with the SA showing his interest in a certain model. The SA goes in the back, talks to his manager, and comes out with the watch. Watches seem to be held back waiting for the “right” customer. Guessing over a large sample of ADs, if Lebron James randomly walked into an AD, what models would be more likely to be sitting in the safe for immediate sale rather than an order?

Went to my AD’s to pick up my 226750 recently, had a chat with the manager and told him I was a bit disappointed as I preferred the 216750, hey presto he went to the back of the shop and returned with one.

Copies of conversations like this, so they can take them out and have a good laugh when bored.

My guess is that the larger ADs have quite a few desirable references in the safe ready for pick up by the “right customer”.

I'd wager they have 15 - 25 Rolex models at any given time.

I wouldn't allocate any watches to Lebron. What a loudmouth jerk.

This is what you get when someone in high school becomes a multi millionaire.

Over the past few years, ADs have been strongly incentivized to not display most sales stock. This obviously runs counter to the logic with most retail operations.

So, any model that they would not want to sell to any random person who walks in their store would probably not be publicly displayed which, for a little while, has been everything except certain ladies models.

My Boutique is one of the highest volume dealers in the US. I have zero reason to believe they hoard inventory in their safe. Their business model is keeping lists for existing customers as well as “wish interests” cards for new prospects. There is no reason or rationale for them to hold things back when they have a steady stream of distribution for every watch they receive. I remember asking my SA the week before Christmas last year if there was anything available for immediate sale, even a jewel encrusted women’s watch, he said no.
Each dealer is free to handle things as they see fit, but I still don’t think hoarding is common.

With smash-and-grabs becoming more common, many Dealers have put in pace minimum-risk display areas.

The 'return to the window' will logically be resisted for as long as possible.

As said above, people want what they can't have more than what they can obtain easily.

Human nature aside, watches will return to the window only when ADs need to attract new buyers using the old models of 'passing trade' and 'impulse purchasing'.

This will likely happen if we get to the point where the waiting lists for particular references run dry.

No talk of relationships should occur when buying out of a window.

There is no such word as "incentivised". The perfectly good word that is in every English Dictionary is "incented". I say this with peace and love.

“ The meaning of INCENTIVIZE is to provide with an incentive. How to use incentivize in a sentence.” Merriam Webster

Just because it is on the web does not mean it needs to exist when the word incent is and was a perfectly good word. Will you take motivate and change it motivatize in the future?

ADs have vested interest in maintaining the fascia of scarcity for the crown as a whole.

For one, they want to incentivize the purchase of non-hot stuff. a TT Seadweller sucker is born every minute.

Take your loss and get off the Internet for today.

https://books.google.com/ngrams/grap...26&smoothing=3

Incentivize/Incentivise is a real word according to Oxford and it sees routine usage in the international business world.

Not only that but incentivize is vastly superior to incented due to greater tense versatility. Plus the fact that you avoid using words similar to incest and incensed.
