1989 Rolex 16233 Datejust Cream Boiler Gauge Dial Box and Papers Full Set

For sale is an extremely rare all orignal 36mm stainless steel and 18 karat yellow gold Rolex Datejust. The R serial 16233 was originally shipped from Rolex USA to the AD on February 23rd 1989, according to the red letter stamps on the watch’s papers, and was retailed by the AD later that same year. The watch is accompanied by all of its original boxes and papers, including the original purchase receipt. Included in the box and papers set are: inner and outer Rolex boxes, the original warranty papers, the original purchase receipt, a serialized Rolex hang tag, a brown Rolex hang tag, two instruction manuals, a manual holder, an extra link which is currently not installed, and a Rolex polishing cloth.

The Datejust features a brushed steel case, which is accented by a fixed yellow gold fluted bezel. The Rolex is mounted on its original steel and yellow gold 62523H.18 jubilee bracelet, which is fully linked and will comfortably fit a 7.65 inch wrist. The Datejust features an extremely rare cream porcelain “Boiler Gauge” dial with: applied polished yellow gold Arabic numeral hour markers, polished gold tritium coated hands, and a magnified date window aperture at 12 o’clock. The Boiler Gauge dial has stood the test of time well, and has aged to a gorgeous cream color, which presents beautifully in person.

The movement used in the 16233 is the Rolex Caliber 3135, which features approximately 48 hours of power reserve.

The case has stood the test of time well, and remains thick and crisp with even lugs. The Jubilee bracelet does contain a noticeable amount of stretch, which is consistent with the watches age. Overall the Rolex is in very good condition and is an honest example of a rare boiler gauge dial reference: 16233 Datejust. It is extremely rare to see Boiler Gauge dial Datejusts come to market, let alone one that is a full set ! Furthermore, this was most likely one of the last boiler gauge dials to leave Rolexes factory as it was discontinued in the late 1990s, and is seldomly seen on sapphire crystal Datejusts.

About the Boiler Gauge Dial:

The Boiler Gauge dial is easily one of the rarest and most desirable dials to be found on neo vintage 36mm Datejust models. It was produced in extremely limited quantities through the 1980s, with the white dial variant being a porcelain dial, which is desirable due to the fact that it has a propensity to fade to cream color with age. There was also a blue dial variant of the Boiler Gauge dial produced, but it was produced in even more limited quantities than the white dial variant. However, the white dial variant is loved by collectors due to the fact that it is known to fade to a cream hue, in a similar manner to the “Cream Rail” dials that were fitted to early reference: 16550 Explorer II models.
