Lume efficiency take...

Hello there...
We all agree the lume of a panerai is far superior than rolex or as a matter of fact is the best in the business... the fact that panerai puts a lot of emphasis on its lume... So compared to a rolex or say other watch how much longer or whats the general life of a panerai lume???

Hello Rick, no one know how long that lume can glow. But I think the lume will glow more longer than tritium.

What? I have a 111G. The G means it is a 2004 or 5 years old. It is a painted dial with Super Luminova. If I charge the watch before bedtime (hold it to a 60W light for about 30 seconds) it'll last all night long. No joke, I wake up at 6AM (still dark) and I can easily tell the time due to the lume. So, you'll get 7-8 hours easy.

yah my 112 is also G series. but i have never tried to charge it up that die hard way before. i only charge it to any light source for no more than 3-5 min.

my problem now is to look for a 60w light lol.

how bout trying to use my fenix led flashlight? the white light reaches 200 meters with just 1 penlight battery

Yes , that is a better idea. Shine your Fenix at it, you should be able to see the time

on second thought, using the fenix on my 112 might be a scary idea. the large saphire + the strong beam = blinding light

i guess ill do it from the other end of my room. just to be sure! lol

Rick, one of the requirements of early Panerais used by the Italian frogmen was the ability to see the dial in any condition. Of course the radium and later tritium used in earlier examples provided the user with a luminosity capability independent of a light source the health concerns posed curtailed their use in favor of luminova.

As a non radioactive substance luminova needs exposure to a light source to charge, and while tritium has a half life (at 1602 years no need to worry about radium) luminova (superluminova) is said to not be affected by time. Mixture and surface play a big role in both intensity and longevity.

The Rolex maxi-dial has gone a ways in providing the brand with better lume on certain of it's watches and the use of their version of luminova (chromalite), at least in my experience, has enhanced longevity.

That said, the mixture and surface area of the Panerai (to me more so with the sandwich dial) I think is superior to many others. (Omega makes a bright one)

Some comparisons,

I love this,

In any configuration, Pam lume is a winner.
