French Bulldog

As some of you may remember, I posted about losing my 5 year old frenchie several months back. Over the last few months my wife and I have started to plan on adding a dog to the family again. Our young children love dogs and constantly ask about our frenchie. My son who is almost 4 understands that his dog isn’t coming home but is always asking for another, especially when he sees another French bulldog.

I am curious if anyone French bulldog owners on here have recommendations on a reputable breeder?
Would want an AKC registered dog. Would be willing to travel to different states. So I am not limited on a specific region.

And just a couple pics of good old boy!

I’m sorry for your loss. He looks like he was a very happy good boy.

As someone who has had multiple rescue dogs in the past and present I’d say look for a frenchie rescue group around your area and see what they have. Breeders are only beneficial when you’re looking to breed your pup as well IMO. There are many dogs out there looking for a home that could be up your alley and be the most incredible dog you’ve ever owned. I’m saying this from my experience, I’d still recommend making sure any dog is a good fit with your family before squeezing the trigger.

Unfortunately that’s my frenchie that I lost early in 2022. He was a happy and healthy dog and brought us a lot of joy.

Would you consider a Froston or something similar?

The biggest challenge with all purebred dogs - and particularly Frenchies - is the genetic anomalies from so much in-breeding and specialized characteristics bred for. If you go the route of a Froston, you can overcome a lot of those issues.

Your dog was beautiful and I'm very sorry for your loss.

Hi Mike I’m sorry I don’t have a line on a good Frenchie breeder but I wanted to express my condolences for your loss and thank you for sharing such awesome pictures of your beautiful family member. I wish you nothing but the best in finding your next pup and please keep us updated on the journey!!

Stay away from those “Glamorous” colored ones that are insanely expensive and not a true Frenchie by standards. We are also in the process of trying to find a new dog/breeder. However, we are looking for an English Bulldog. Good luck

Honestly if Google Frenchie breeders in your area, read evaluations and visit the breeder ( assuming they are nearby), you can find a good one.

It’s so sad how badly bred they are. In the uk it’s the same. We’re blessed as our Frenchie is almost 10 and apart from slowing down and his eyesight not being as sharp he’s in incredible shape. If we look for another, I think my advice would be to ask a breeder about their previous litters. We also insisted on finding one where both parents’ bloodlines were documented.

Sorry for your loss, my 1st Frenchie lived till he was almost 17 ! just two months short.

Our 2nd Frenchie is approaching his 2 nd birthday and he is a little Sod ! saying he is naughty doesn't do him justice.

Sorry for your loss and they are our kids so nothing worse! I would check the French Bulldog Breeder directory. As you know it is really important to buy ones with a strong lineage. I have seen a lot of breeders out there going for different looks.

I have a frenchie that I got as a puppy.

If I was to get another I would honestly get a rescue Frenchie. I follow a charity for them and there is so many Frenchies that need good homes.

Perhaps you can pm the details. We have a near 10 year old one & some younger company might just work!

In the states, in NY there’s the Long Island Bulldog Rescue. They get some French Bulldogs in at different times.

OP, very sorry for your loss. I was lucky to get my dude Rocky from a guy a few degrees removed in friends who wasn’t a breeder but had a litter before he had his female fixed. He have all the pups away and I got this dude.

For those proposing rescue Frenchies, I tried for 4 years with multiple organizations to adopt one. You honestly have a better chance of hitting the lottery. Not to discourage anyone from trying but it’s not as simple as you see a dog on a site and adopt it.
