Seeking info on 4498 Rolex

Hello,
I recently inherited this Rolex from my father, originally his fathers. It’s marked inside the case 4498. 15 Rubis Swiss Made Movement. I’ve been trying to do some research on it. It appears it’s a 1948/49 model year per the serial number.
I can’t seem to find one with the same face and hands. They are all close but not the same. I have no history on maintenance, it does seem to be running well. I plan to wear it for special occasions but unsure if I should have it gone over or just enjoy it as is.
Any information regarding this piece would be greatly appreciated!

It's always difficult to know what exactly has happened to 70 year old watches like this, but it looks to me that the dial has been refinished and might not be a genuine Rolex dial.

The second hand might be original, but I think the minute and hour hands are replacements and are not genuine Rolex hands.

The case and winding crown look good and it sounds as if the movement is the correct 15 rubis one, so its really a matter of personal choice if you want to try and improve the cosmetics.

If it was mine, I would get the dial removed, try to determine if it is genuine and then decide whether to have it repainted. I would also look around for a more attractive set of hands that fit the movement.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of parts for these around so I don't think you could get it back to original condition. The best thing is to improve the looks of it so you are happy to wear it.

Neat watch Boulder.

Unfortunately there was not a lot of documentation on non-oyster watches.

I have several books that I will look through with pictures of era catalogs to see if I can find it.

I've not been able to find out much about my 3660 either.

The serial number lists only apply to oyster cases.
