VC Overseas

Thinking of trading my 5167/1A for a recent blue Overseas. Any Patek folks out there who have one of the modern Overseas have thoughts on this?

I just got mine and the blue dial lives up to all the great things said about it. I have a small wrist 6.5 inches and it is a joy to wear. Always tough to trade for stuff, but of the two watches I prefer the VC.

I’d just add here instead of trading.

I never had the 5167 but I might be in a minority group as I see it bland and rather boring
I have two overseas that I feel are much higher quality and a lot more interesting watches!
I love the bezel, easy strap/bracelet change to give the watch totally different feel and can be dressed up or down!
I feel that the build, quality and craftsmanship are a lot higher on the VC

Too big of a pain, I’m thinking of just working out something with a TS I have dealt with before on here.

I tried on the blue Overseas three hander when it was newly launched while waiting for a 5711/1A blue at the time and didn't like it at all - neither the case (which wore very large on my flat 6.7 inch wrist), nor the bracelet (don't need strap options but one nice bracelet which this is not in my eyes), nor the dial (hour marker shape, tiny date, double minute markers to fill all the space there) and color (too blue).

As a result I would not do that trade despite not being a big Aquanaut fan.

I have tried them but a long time ago when they had the JLC movement. I always liked VC and figured it was a safe entry point.

I like the 5167 obviously as I bought it, but I haven’t worn it in a while and the value right now is still not bad.

I like VC as well, just not the current series Overseas. But I’d also consider selling the 5167 if you are not wearing it anymore despite prices having come down quite a bit.

Yeah… I don’t want to get anything where I’d be paying cash out on it, so that rules out RO and I have a ROO already.

The secondary market price for 5167a is a lot higher than VC 4500, you should get some money back your way.

The secondary market price for Patek has came down a lot but it's still way overpriced for Nautilus and Aquanaut.

Always go for the one you love to see on your wrist.

I think one big difference would be the thickness. The 5167 is a very thin watch at just 8.5mm while I think even the VCO 4500V is thicker at 11mm. It’s by no means a thick watch but it will feel drastically different. Also, the quick changing strap system will make the strap flare out a little so if you have small wrist you might want to try it out first.

I thought the 5167 is in the upper $40K range. Even with a seller discount, shouldn’t you be able to get a Royal Oak? I see a lot of them listed at below $40K.

Maybe, if it’s upper 40k. My 5167 hasn’t been serviced in 5+ years and I have an extra uncut strap for it. Not sure what the market is on them exactly but I’d expect 4-5k under market to a TS, maybe more like $5k, dunno if I can get into RO territory or not.

If you are trading it - I hope you are getting cash back. The 5167A is probably worth about 1.5x to 2x a blue VC at this time.

I have had both and prefer the VC, but like others have said, it wears a little differently than the patek so you should try it on first.

Why would you do this? The 5167/1a is the ne plus ultra of luxury sport watches; everything else wants to be an Aquanaut. Even the Nautilus is a more delicate vintage version of the Aquanaut. The 5167 is the definition of legibility, wearability and, on the bracelet, fits superbly. Completely understated and a no apologies watch which hangs out well with wealthier friends.
The Overseas is a beautiful watch but it's an honorable mention.
If you need cash for something else but still want to have a nice watch
and you can trade out, it may make sense, but trades are, by definition, winners for The Trade and losers for Retail Customers.

I just purchased the 7900V Blue dial from a boutique in this forum and I absolutely love it! I looked at just about every blue dial watch under $50k and this one was by far my favorite. It's a stunning time piece for sure.

I personally have zero love for the 5167...it's very basic realistically. That said I have friends who freakin LOVE it.

I really dig the VC...the dial pops, and the versatility of the straps is amazing. Plus I see 5167s a lot and very rarely see a VC in the wilds...

I have a 5968, 5167 and 4500v. The VC is the watch which I wear the most and the 5167 is now my wife’s watch since we cut the strap to her size.

The 5167 is light and comfortable but does not feel “special” to me. The VC is much larger when wearing on the wrist so if you have a smaller wrist, you may have to wear it on the strap as it wears smaller than the bracelet. However, I feel that the quality of the VC definitely is to a higher standard than the 5167. The case, movement design and finishing are definitely at a much refined level. And the blue dial is really the star as it shimmers and changes color as the ambience light changes.

VC Overseas

I’m a big fan of the SS 4500v. It wears well, and feels more special on the wrist versus the 5167a.

Plus, without the brushed bezel of the 5167a, it can be worn more “carefree” because the polished bezel will handle wear & tear more easily - small scratches are not as in your face.

P.S. Don’t overlook the silver dial. It takes on all straps very well.

VC Overseas

While not a fan of the aquanaut, I would not do this trade. The VC is trading below list.

Sell your PP outright and look for an RO 15500/15510. They are trading poorly now.

The massive difference in size is what first comes to mind. If the sizing works, then sure, if you prefer the VC. You should be able to get cash back, too, as others have said.

I can handle a 47mm PAM so my wrist should be fine. The main thing I am wondering about now is the color and if I should get any complications.

I just got my Seamaster ~Goldeneye era back from service recently and was wearing it at lunch and it has an electric blue dial. So I was wondering if it is too much overlap with that in terms of the dial colors.

The 2016+ iteration of the Overseas I am still sold on I think.

The aquanaut is much thinner and looks more refined, whilst overseas obviously are much sportier given the dimensions. Really wanted a 5167a but obviously not happening

I can't get used to the whole bracelet thing, it's far too heavy, and the rubber strap bulges out massively for some reason. However the cordura strap fits so much better and I wear the 4500v much more now since I got the strap. And my lord the blue dial with the cordura strap is a match in heaven...

I walked into the boutique to place a deposit down on a blue dial 4500V and walked out with my name down for a black dial 7900V (dual time).

I then watched this each day to it arrived :)

I think the Overseas just looks and feels way more special than the Aquanaut, I have both watches by the way. Overseas 4900v and a Aquanaut 5165a.

The easy strap changing system of the Overseas is brilliant so depending on whether you have it on the rubber, leather or SS it completely transforms the character of the watch. During the week it's on either a black or army green rubber and on weekends it let's it's hair down on an orange or red rubber. For more formal occasions it has a black Croc strap on standby.

On the other hand the Aquanaut is rather boring in comparison. If my son hadn't called dibs on it, I most likely would have sold it by now.

That being said I wouldn't trade the Aquanaut for a Overseas unless there is substantial monetary adjustment coming you way. Personally if I was in your position I'd sell the Aquanaut and use the part of funds to get the Overseas.
