Do you need to remove your watch from your wrist for TSA? I usually just put it in my shoe.

I was asked once, and I said, 'May I just keep it on?' He replied, 'Sure,' and let me through.

Never taken my watch off. No way I’m laying it in a bin. They can examine it on my wrist.

It's common in airports overseas; I always put it in my carryon if I have to remove it.

I always get selected for the pat down and scan. Maybe it's my cane or the metal in my back that lights up the X-ray. I leave my watch on.

Flew about 12 times this year domestic. Never took it off nor was I asked. Regular security too, I don’t have clear or pre check.

From reading threads on this, my read is as follows:
1. Large majority of the time you will not be asked to take it off. 2. In the minority where you may be asked to take it off, you can try insisting to keep it on/go through the hand wand. Many times this works. 3. In the smaller minority from 2 where they still make you take it off despite your plea, you'll have to take it off. For such occasions, it would be good to carry a travel pouch. Personally, I've never been asked to take my watch off except just recently. I had already put my bag through and the guy said take your watch off. I said I didn't want to. He said "just put it in your shoe, we're not going to steal your watch". I said it is not about being worried you'll steal it, I don't want it to get scratched, can you just do the wand scan. He said "don't make this difficult". And being a semi-smart fellow some of the time, I chose not to make it difficult. |

I have TSA Global Entry. I never ever take off my watch and never been asked to do so. I have flown pretty much everywhere in the USA, plus some travel to Europe too.
But based on what I’ve seen here on TRF, some people have been asked to take off their watch in some European cities. I haven’t experienced this myself, but I suppose it happens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Never in the USA or overseas have I been asked to remove my watch. I always wear it through security.

I was required to remove my watch at MDW (Chicago) last week and ATL in May. The middle east and east Africa always required removal.
I don’t recommend arguing with the officers over it. I have pouch inside my carry on that I stuff my wallet and watch into. |

That’s why I stow mine ahead of time, less hassle to myself and to other travelers. I understand that most replies will be “it’s never happened to me”, but if and when it does, you’re left scrambling. I used to be in the wear it camp until I was asked twice in one year. Once in Atlanta, once in Heathrow. I guess everyone’s experience is different. |

I don’t wear it to the airport. Stick it in a casebudi and clip it into my laptop bag on the inside. I also don’t put it on until I am at the hotel or resort.
That’s what I do with an expensive theft target piece. If it’s not, then I just wear it. I have never been asked to take it off. |

No. I asked this question last month. Went through a few airports. They don’t even ask you.

In the US, I have never had to remove my watch. I would never put it in the tray, shoe or not, if I did not have to. The safest place your watch is on your wrist.

This wasn't at TSA, but soon after buying my precious Submariner, I was called to jury duty and I wondered what would be asked of me and my watch at security.
This sign was at the entrance, an since they displayed a photo of an actual Rolex Submariner, it pretty much removed any doubt as to what I had to do! Classic!

^ Same here. Had to remove everything when going through metal detector for jury duty at the courthouse but didn’t have to take the watch off for TSA Precheck international flights.

for domestic travel within the USA, using TSA precheck, I have never had to take off my watch.
If they were to ask me to, I would then request a manual search without using the machine |

Exactly what someone who was going to steal your watch would say.

My experience is that in the USA you can keep it on (in any lane, Pre-Check or regular).
In Europe, I have been often asked to take it off. Therefore, when I travel through a EU airport, I usually take it off and put it in a bag/pocket (with a zipper!) before I go through security. |
