RSC Dallas
I sent my 14060M to Dallas for its first service. I’ve had it since 2008. Nothing wrong with it, keeping excellent time, about + 1 1/2 seconds per 24. Comes back from full service and it’s running at about - 3 seconds per 24. Should I rant? Or should I just wait until the next service in 15 years?

The hard work has been done. Any decent watchmaker can regulate your movement to run on the plus side if you desire, Rolex will likely do that for you under the service warranty.
What would you "rant" about? Your watch was taken apart, cleaned, oiled, and adjusted within the tolerances expected for the model.

-3 second is within the spec I guess? I wouldn't worry about it.
2 of my three rolexes are running -3 seconds per day. The other one was running -1 second per 5 days. I am fine with all of them.

I’m OCD, and that would bother me as someone who prefers for my watches to run fast. Not sure if the specs on that watch are. -/+ 2 seconds a day, but if they are, then that’s all the more reason to send it in. Those who say that you shouldn’t or that’s unrealistic to expect should also explain why Rolex advertises a “superlative chronometer” rating on the dial that is meant to brag about that timekeeping accuracy.

Three seconds seems inconsequential.

How long have you had it back? It can take a bit for a newly serviced (or purchased) watch to "wear in" to your wearing habits.
That being said I prefer a positive bias myself, which pretty much every mechanical I've ever owned has had. One notable exception: a Breitling with an early B01 movement has always had a negative bias, even after service under warranty and I'll admit it annoys the piss out of me. By contrast, the modified B01 in my Tudor BB Chronograph keeps nearly perfect time with a slight positive bias. |

Isn't the tolerance spec for a 14060M -4/+6 sec per day (or something like that)? It's not the newer spec of -2/+2 (again, I believe)

That would bother me enough for a do-over. Yes, it’s within specs etc, but negative times are more tricky to adjust. I prefer watches running ever so slightly fast.

If it bothers you enough to make a post then it bothers you enough to get it regulated. Find a local watch person that can do the job on site and have it done. Good luck.

I would not be happy with that at all. It means you have to reset the time more often. But, if it is within spec, I would just leave it.

Agree, especially an old watch like this one. You would never know what other problems may surface after it comes back from RSC again

Is it your only watch? Do you wear it every day? Have you tried storing it in different positions at night to see if that impacts the delta?
Like you I would prefer my watch run a positive delta but I also put a new one on almost every morning so +/- 3 or 4 sec a day wouldn't bug me If I wore the same one every day I could see a negative delta pissing me off to the point I would get it adjusted

Why are the only options to “rant” or to live with it for 15 years?
You could politely request that they regulate it for you. You catch more flies with honey |

I'll be honest, I would be annoyed. Even though it's in spec, it went from running fast to running slow, and at an extra 100% margin at that. If it was running -1.5, I'd be fine.
But if it's in spec for that model, I'd probably roll with it and wear it for a few weeks and then see how I feel; if it still bothered me, then I'd send it back. |
