“Come back next year.”

While at the mall today I stopped by my local Rolex AD to see what was going on. I thought I’d try on a couple display models. To my amazement they removed 80% of the display models that were there 6 months ago.

Since no one was in the store I thought I would mention that I was interested in a GMT.

The store manager told me they may have some inventory but it is committed to other buyers.

His parting comment was “Come back next year.”

Rant: I have purchased three Rolexes at that store over the past six years albeit from different SA’s. Being blown off with a quip was annoying to say the least. No wonder Rolex is moving to their own retail distribution network. I won’t be back.

I think you should let the AD owner or at least the manager know with a polite email. Worse case nothing happens. Best case they feel the need to make it right an offer you something.

They are bullshyteing.

I picked up my 1st Rolex today with only a 6 week wait. Told my rep that I'll be back for the pepsi gmt in 2 years (for my 50th).

She smiled and told me I can pick it up next year cos she feels sorry for me to wait that long. Told me to text her when I'm ready and she can get me one within 90 days. And this sub that I picked up today...this is the one that "apeared magically out of nowhere". Which tells me they have stock ALL the time but only to customers they wanna sell it to.

Make it right? For what? He was politely told to come back in a couple of months and something might be available.
Not sure what the big offense was.

So much entitlement…

I'm sure the SA didn't mean any harm, but if a customer felt they were not valued, no matter how it was conveyed, the owner/manager would want to know so they might be improve on their service.

What’s amazing is that Rolex customers are conditioned to being treated so poorly. We’ve been trained to play the part.

He didn’t ask basic sales questions. He wasn’t trying to be friendly. At minimum, ‘let me get your contact information and see you next year.’

This was a Lowes experience.

I don’t get treated poorly. I’ve gotten every watch I’ve asked for, in fairly short order. I just don’t expect to get everything I want immediately. Because I know there are others asking for the same watches.

Write a letter and explain as you have in your post. You would be surprised at what may come of it. Worst case you have vented and feel better and know that if you get no response to stop wasting your time with them

I agree, send an email or make a phone call to the manager, explain what happened.
They may surprise you?

Not sure what you would’ve wanted them to say.
Would it have made you feel better if they had strung you along, only for you to be disappointed come year end?

You’re after a popular model.
They probably already know their Nov and Dec allocations, and have committed it to other customers.
Hence they’ve asked you to come back next year.

Not sure what exactly is the problem?

I simply don’t see the issue. Guy is asking for a GMT, which regardless of what’s happening with the market, surely has many more potential buyers than watches.

Manager said he didn’t have one available to sell today, but to check back in a couple of months.

What’s the problem with this response? I’m genuinely curious what people would rather have the manager say? How is this in any way rude or problematic?

OP has bought multiple watches from the store. Why on earth would they need to take his contact information? They already have it.

I’m with you.

On a side note, it’s odd that half the threads here now are about the watch market being dead and everything will be under retail by next month and the other half of the threads are about how “rude” and AD was and wouldn’t sell them anything.

Kind of conflicting narratives.

hahahahha...yes, send them an email. Moan, whine, bitch and cry some more. That'll get you the most desirable watch in no time. Why has no one ever thought of this before? That's just genius. Yeah, these ADs have never receive these types of emails before. Once they receive your email complaints, they'll feel sooooo bad that they won't be able to sleep & eat for years until they get you that one watch that you want and ultimately forgive them. Every complain is legit, mhmmmm.

Totally agree.

This is the equivalent of:
Person 1: "I want to be with you."
Person 2: "No"
Person 1: "Please?"
Person 2: "No. Try again next year."
Person 1: "So you're telling me there's a chance?"

To even entertain the idea of then groveling back to the same dealer in hopes of obtaining a Rolex is sad, really...

It's apparently still a sad state of affairs to deal with some AD'S. I wonder sometimes why customers put up with AD's like this. Maybe one day enough buyers will realize there are other brands just as good or better than Rolex and stop tolerating such behavior.

Then perhaps it will go back to the days when customers were appreciated and dealers treated customers with respect and appreciation for spending there money with them..

Agreed, given we’re close to the new year, I immediately took the comment as meaning come back after the holidays and New Year.

Like others I also fail to see what the problem is with the AD's response. Sounds like a very honest sales manager to me. Would you rather the manager wasted both your and his time with fluff talk?
