Purchasing AP without box / papers?

Interested in picking up a 15300OR ~ year 2008 but it has no box or papers, just comes with a recent servicing invoice.

Anything to look out for / be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

I personally used to purchase only complete sets. As I look into older pieces and it's for my own personal use, it's not really a deal breaker. I would negotiate a little but for a non complete piece.

Good luck!

NBD for me because I buy to keep.

I'd check the serial number on the Watch Register and similar databases to do a little diligence that it's not stolen. There's also a lot of fraud/fakes around, so be careful to ensure authenticity and that you trust the seller.

Is the servicing invoice from AP?

Personally, I won't buy any watch without box and papers.

If it’s 15% less then it’s fine. Thats about what you’ll get dinged at trade in vs a complete set.
I’d prob rather save the money, last thing I need is another box.

Make sure you buy right, prices on these are tanking so hold out for the right set

I am not against buying without box and papers but it will have to be from a seller that is trusted and the price will have to be reflective in the offering. I typically am looking at 20-25% below what a similar watch is being offered for with box and papers. The service is nice but it needs to be well documented and through the company that the watch is manufactured by. The seller would have had to do the service anyway as you can not sell a watch typically with operating issues unless revealed. The sellers price should not be such that you are paying for his servicing the watch. The seller already took that off the price of whatever he gave to the person that sold the watch to him. Proceed with care.

Unless it's a vintage piece - buying without B&P potentially fuels theft of our precious watches and we should never support it as collectors.

If the watch have original papers from service you don’t have to be worried about authenticity of the watch. But the lack of box and original papers will decrease resale value. It’s up to you. If you are going to wear the watch and keep it you don’t need box

I would not, especially not for a modern watch (say, post 1990) and especially not for a high visibility popular model. To be honest, I would not buy an AP, PP sports model, or any Rolex used (unless Rolex certified) - papers or no papers. Too many fakes and questions for my liking.

If the servicing invoice is from AP I might consider it without the original box and papers. I have purchased Rolex before without box/papers but with a recent service card from Rolex with matching SN's. Still, buy the seller!
