Yet Another Movie Question
Operating from the premise that Mel Brooks made two comedies that stand above his other films (sorry The Producers).
Which do you prefer ~ Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein?

Gene lived about ~10min from my in-laws in CT. There's a sushi roll at their local place named after him. I loved him in WW&CF; my favorite movie of all time. Between these two, Blazing Saddles is raunchier & funnier to me.

They are all brilliant in their own ways. It's like, how do you pick your favorite child? Another great one is High Anxiety. Such a funny spoof on the Hitchcock films.
I'll be sure to read the autobiography. I have watched a few docs on him. I don't recall the name of this series, but there's one on great comedians and each episode focuses on a different person and how they got started. The writer and creator of Everyone Loves Raymond leads each of the interviews. He had one where it was Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner hanging out together and they interviewed each other on their lives, their work, their work together, etc. He was there and facilitated, but those two really led it. They spent every day together after their wives passed, so if you want to see one you get to see the other. Jerry Seinfeld also had a very similar episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee where he picked up Mel and then they went over to spend time with Carl. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk |

Blazing Saddles, by far. It is funny on so many levels.
It could never be made today. Corporate suits and social activists would shut it down before the ink dried on the script. There would be protests in the streets and calls for legislation banning satire. The writers would be black listed and scourged in public. I’m lucky that I have the original on dvd. |

I'm a little surprised at the responses. Thought it would be closer.
I see Blazing Saddles as delivering more laughs and being the more raucous (in a good way), while Young Frankenstein is a more finished product, and really kind of a love letter to the original Frankenstein film. I've watched both many, many times and still enjoy them.
