Hey, this is my first post.

I’m in the market for the CM and was on the waiting list at one store….

Long story short, I received a call from the store that I was on the list that the watch is in. I also went into a local store where I bought my wife a Rolex a few months ago and they told me they just got a new CM in that day. I now have cold feet. I’m not a watch guy. so I don’t know the market as well as most and I am also concerned that over the past couple years Rolex has been close to impossible to get & now the watch that I fell in love with has come in new at two stores and is available at both. Am I crazy to think that the market is coming back down to earth and once I buy this watch it is going to lose value??

Thanks for any advise.

Your instinct is correct. CM retails for $42k USD. You can get as low as $30k USD in grey or secondary market dealer.

Pass at retail unless they are offering a pretty big discount.

Excuse my ignorance, when you say grey and secondary market dealer, is this a used or new CM?

Grey market refers to dealers who aren’t ADs - you can get both new/unworn or used at grey dealers depending on your preference. Good luck!

Check the for sale section in this forum. Takuya has one for sale for under $35k.
Don't buy a PM watch expecting it to go up in value or even retain value. That market is over. If you love it and expect to keep forever, then get it.

They are technically used, in that someone bought from an AD. But unworn are available out there for 30-35.

Your name isn't written on the warranty card anymore, so at this point it doesn't really matter as long as you can trust the seller.

I got mine from my AD about eight months ago. In hindsight, would I have bought it in the gray market, sure …I probably would have saved a ton of cash.

Buy it on secondary market from a reputable source.

The average used price is now 35K on the Watchcharts site. I would think this means dealer buy on these is below 30K. That is a 12K plus the sales tax hit if you need to sell one now that you bought new. Watches are a hobby, if you factor in numbers, it can take the pleasure out of it for sure.

So I found out they have a used one that the owners have been wearing. It’s 2 years old and the band def looks scruffed up, but the face is perfect. Apparently with a nice buff it will look brand new. They want 35k and I could pay a bunch in cash to save the tax. I’m thinking 20% off of retail makes sense but they make it like I’m getting a special deal at 35k and they aren’t making any $$$$…. This is so annoying….

NO. For $35k they better polish to retail. Either way I would not buy unless it looks brand new.

The 35K number I gave you represents watches which look unworn or show very slight evidence of wear. If the bracelet is scuffed up, you may want to negotiate further. I would be inclined to bargain for it as is, that way, you don't have to worry about scratches, and you can just wear it.

That is a huge purchase for someone who isn't a watch guy.

True that. Which is why I want to make the right decision. I never should have bought my wife a watch a few months ago. Now I have the itch, and I get crazy with negotiations…..

Just make sure it comes with all the links. Some of the wholesale pieces are missing a link or two.

Welcome to the forum.

I’d start in the shallow end before jumping into the deep end, especially since you’re not really a watch guy

I’m in the market for this as well! Not even considering the AD route. I don’t mind a few grand for the relationship/experience but this is just too much

Those are the WYW guys from Atlanta. They are reputable. I have purchased a few watches from them.

Really like this watch but would not buy at retail. Agree considering what used watches are selling on grey, you'd get under $30k offers if you needed to sell.

With that said I also wouldn't buy a used scuffed up watch for $35k either.

Buy new at $36-38k or used/polished at $30-34k.

Yup. Ya got cold feet. Market is coming back down to a more expensive earth. The watch will for sure lose value until it is discontinued just like its predecessor the smurf.

Not sure where it goes from here as the stock market and economy are roaring. If value is the most important thing to you, buy a stainless daytona. The legend has been etched.

Buying grey = fueling the craziness. If you love the watch go buy it at retail. worst case scenario you lose 10k extrapolated on x amount of years worn - not a big deal.

CM = Ceramic Milgauss ??

You know it might be a good idea to actually use some English expression...
