Obviously we have to determine whether the issue is external or internal.
I use white noise for the external and a dark room but the internal stuff is the problem for most people. Trying hacks like alcohol and drugs may seem to work but studies have shown they negatively affect our different sleep stages. But we do what we have to. I used to design hotels for a living and if I thought about it before bed, I could do some great designs during the night but would not get any sleep. So I try to shut my brain down and not think before going to bed. As soon as we think about something, adrenaline and cortisol is released and we're screwed. Meditative techniques and controlled breathing seem to really work. Actually not just for sleep but for stress control etc.

CBD seems to really work for some people for sleep and pain control and for others doesn't seem to do anything.
I've never found any that worked for me but my wife swears by it. https://ojaienergetics.com/?utm_sour...ee84%3D.KFgyzg

Magnesium supplements up to around 500mg per day are also credited for a lot of things like sleep.

I don’t think you want to take Nyquil on a regular basis.

HIIT interval training can - when done in conjunction with strength building. As we age, pure aerobic work can be less effective for weight maintenance unless you can commit large amounts of time.

I wish I could help. But I’m on call the next three days. I went to bed four hours ago. Tossing and turning. Watching the clock. Knowing the alarm is set to go off in four hours. At this point I’ve given up. Now on days when I’m not on call four Benadryl, two Tylenol PM, two Advil PM and two Aleve PM and I’m good for a solid five hours of sleep.

I've had a few weeks of insomnia here and there due to overtraining and not listening to my body.
At that time I could only fall asleep after vaping cannabis. I try to maintain a strong routine, waking up the same time every day and going to bed the same time, 7 days a week. If I go to bed too soon after running or swimming I won't fall asleep. Every light upstairs is a dimmable Philips hue, warmer lower light hours before sleep helps the body create melatonin. Lastly, I no longer use any digital device/screen at least one hour before bed, only physical books to read then. |

Anyway, I go to bed consistently around 10pm, fall asleep pretty fast, but always wake up 3-4am range. I can never fall back to sleep. Maybe a very light sleep at best. It seems as though the tinnitus is the culprit and it tends to get worse after I’ve woken up. I usually have to take a leak too, which can throw me off trying to fall back to sleep. This pattern has been going on for many years. I am getting a solid 5-6 hours of sleep, but wish I could get more. I don’t feel groggy during the day, just really tired in the evening when downtime starts to kick in.

I don’t have insomnia per se, but I do wake up 20x a night. It’s beyond obnoxious. I actually haven’t slept through the night since I was laid off due to the crash in 2009. Guess that was detrimental for my sleep? Anyway I too have tinnitus. Mine is the fuzzy kind that sounds like a tv on a channel with no signal. If I don’t focus on it I generally don’t hear it. If I do it fills my head. So at night I make sure to keep a louder fan on all night long for white noise.

I use a white noise machine, a dohm sound machine which makes the marpac sound. Game changer. My entire family uses it. Melatonin helps, too. Cut out alcohol completely.

Give up alcohol completely??? Sounds like the cure is worse than the disease.

What works for me is (a) I have changed my lifestyle to accommodate my lack of sleep, and I take full advantage of having extra hours during the day (I used to spend those hours trying to fall asleep) (b) I never try to force myself to sleep. I will keep doing stuff until my body says no more. Once I get tired, I collapse and will sleep for a solid 2-3 hours. c) I use apps with awesome sounds that are soothing and help me sleep (d) I use these sprays for my pillows like Lavender, etc. And find them super helpful to ease into sleep (e) had to correct my diet to improve my sleep I use my days with no obligations to ensure I sleep a little longer. Wine helps me too. A full bottle of wine and I’ll stay in bed for a solid 5 hrs. Best of luck, I know it’s not easy! |

Reading through all of the responses, I gave the CBD a rethink. I went to the wyldcanna website, did some reading, and looked to see if there was a retailer near me. It turned out there was a retailer about 3 blocks from the girlfriends house. We ran down there this evening and asked a lot of questions, before deciding to purchase two products.
First, is the CBD+CBN Sleep Gummies. They are Elderberry flavor and THC free. The second is the Pomegranate 1:1 THC:CBD Gummies. Wish me luck in the efficacy... Thank you all for your suggestions and opinions.
