You are better off grabbing this via a grey you can get it for way under list price.
Lots of precious metal watches are under list at the moment..

Long story short, I received a call from the store that I was on the list that the watch is in. I also went into a local store where I bought my wife a Rolex a few months ago and they told me they just got a new CM in that day. I now have cold feet. I’m not a watch guy. so I don’t know the market as well as most and I am also concerned that over the past couple years Rolex has been close to impossible to get & now the watch that I fell in love with has come in new at two stores and is available at both. Am I crazy to think that the market is coming back down to earth and once I buy this watch it is going to lose value??

Thanks for any advise.
First port of call is to contact the AD and ask if there is a discount on the watch and explain that you have been looking on the grey market and have been offered one for XXXX, and see what your AD offers you. Remenber, If you don't ask, you don't get. Good Luck.

Another vote for buying from a reputable grey dealer in this case. The alternative is to instantly lose 15 grand when leaving the AD store. Good luck.

Exactly this. Let them know that you understand where the market is right now and do not get fobbed off with a used piece.

Pass on the watch if you are not in 100%. Prices are adjusting downward and waiting in the current market should benefit you.

If you do really want it, then get it on the grey market. I see no benefit in you purchasing from an AD considering the fact that you’re not into watches and aren’t trying to form any sort of “relationship”

Also if you’re worried about losing value, this is definitely not a good purchase for you. This watch has been relatively easy to get for quite some time now, and has even been in display cases for purchase in NYC.

Welcome to the forum - and hopefully joining has given you some great advice as a result of your first post. The market demand for this model ref.126619 has demonstrated initial froth, followed by quick cooling. The posters just saved you a cool $10K including tax.

Just curious and not a challenge…
What is it about this model that motivated you to get on a list at an AD?
Was it a blue bezel?
Was it White Gold?

Otherwise my friend it is just a Sub with a Date. $12-13K all day long on the secondary market.

Since you asked for thoughts, mine is to source a 116610 (presuming you can let go of the blue bezel insert), avoid the 32xx “issue”, and pocket $30K off the MSRP that the AD woulda charged you.

Now some generic market factoring…
Ready-Fire-Aim drives much of the hysteria surrounding some models.

Just my

Buy it only if you really want it and will wear it.

It’s just a watch. It doesn’t have to be an investment.

If you don’t buy from an AD at MSRP, only buy grey from a trusted seller that has a track record and will refund you if there is any issue (I.e. a seller who depends on reputation to stay in business)

Exactly correct. This is the best course if it’s available

Thank you very much for the responses…. I appreciate the feedback, very helpful. I love the watch because it’s very unsuspecting…. I’m not a flashy person, but there was just something about this watch that attracted me to its look and value. I will do my best to negotiate the sale price, and sometimes you need to walk away if the deal doesn’t make sense. I need to be prepared to walk, although I do love it……

Buying significantly under retail does not fuel the craziness. In fact, its just the opposite.

Yep. You're most likely going to lose value...in the short run.

Same thing with the LV-C, when it was first introduced. You could get those things at MSRP + a discount. Pages of pages of threads here about how hideous it was and you'd have to be crazy to buy.

But then, it was discontinued and voila, just like that, became a "collector's piece."

So, the moral of the story is, don't worry about what the market is right now. The market is stupid, somewhat like a school of fish, flitting from one shiny thing to another, with so-called "influencers" telling them what to like (and buy.)

Be your own man and buy what you like.

The only real conceivable reason to purchase from AD is if you are trying to establish a history with them in hopes of being able to acquire more difficult to come by pieces in the future. Even then, I’d be trying to get a discount. May still be better off going grey.

Why throw away money? The OP can buy from grey and donate the 10k to charity, and don't have to pay the AD game. win win

What? Paying retail for this piece at an AD right now would be fuelling the craziness. How do you think the greys can afford to sell this under list? Because it’s going out the back door significantly discounted - by all means buy from an AD but get market rate.

Perfect Sub

To me the Cookie Monster is the perfect Sub! It is sporty, sophisticated and made of precious metal (that only a Rolex enthusiast will know) as it is indicated by the blue bezel. It is most satisfying for the wearer to know that he/she is wearing a grail and wearing it to please only him/herself and not for anyone else!

What a bubble this is where $10,000 is “not a big deal”

I guarantee more people knew what he was talking about than if he had written 126619LB

And isn’t that the point of language? To readily convey what you’re trying to say?

Or is to not offend the sensibilities of old coots on the Rolex forum?

I believe this piece is special enough that, funds permitting, it's worth getting new. That being said, by all means, look for the best available price, as PM watches historically lose value.
