Agree that your friend should be high on the list for what he wants. But let’s say he wants a SS Daytona. That is only one and in the last several years that the latest version came out, he should already have one. The AD should then move on to the next person once the person gets one of that particular model. I don’t think he should get 5 Daytonas just because he wants it for his friends and I think that is where the AD needs to say that there are other customers on the list. So by now you would think that the VIP clients have already been served.

Of course, won’t happen to everyone, depends on the type of AD, owner policy and level of greed the store is managed by.

Agree; the purchase history, of course, enters in to the calculation, but, without being too naive, I believe other soft factors such as rapport, style, manner, all enter into the building of the "relationship"; not to mention the AD's assessment of the probability of additional future business with a customer.

If you want something super desirable, Grey is the way to go.

If you have a longstanding spend history with an AD, and/or willing to drop coin on multiple watches/jewelry, than "relationship building" is part of the game. I can't blame the ADs, and frankly I think this is something that overall does help Rolex as a brand. People want what they can't have.

I agree. Really don’t understand why some keep believing they are entitled to certain things in a free market.

Until a few years ago, Rolex AD’s still had to move their Rolexes with a discount. I don’t remember anybody ever came here to register their sympathies for the AD.

put yourself in shoes of AD owner.

AD has the one of the most in-demand Rolex production watches in the world, Mmm who do i want to give opportunity to buy this watch and make happy from all the hundreds of people who have asked?

If you're the owner you will want to make happy in this order:

1) long time clients who are big spenders because they will keep spending and keep lights on in good economy and bad economy
2) big spenders because they spend (hard to turn down one time client who drops $100k in one visit)
3) VIP clients - word of mouth for free adverstising to bring in more clients
4) long time clients (with some spend)... just due to loyalty and fills in spending gaps of big spenders (but usually only in good times)
5) walk in or unknown potential clients who have not spent a dime but nice people but talk is cheap
6) walk in or unknown potential clients who have not spent a dime but who are just demanding and overall %^$&%^*

1,2,3, and 4 (in order of priority) keeps the AD in business everything else is just waste of time.

So true,
Grey sellers were the loved ones, they beat the price of almost any AD back than. Nobody was complaining.
Nowadays so many entitled people talking about "feed the greed" and nagging about grey dealers. Little spoiled brats
